Yeah, the dreamworld stuff was cool, I agree- it's the only reason I got through the first book. That and Batson loyalty. But it wasn't enough to read the rest of the series.

It hit my imagination just right, and now everytime I have a dream, i wake up w/ a suspicious look on my face! Haha! I wasn't a huge fan of the dark sea annals either, though.

Really? I loved the Dark Sea Annals, particularly the first one.

Alastair Coldhollow was a pretty legit dude. But idk why, I just didn't get into them. Maybe because I had read the door within, then the pirate adventure books, then Berinfell prophecies and then... The dark sea annals. Maybe it was just enough of a let down that I didn't like it.

So the other day I realized that I had a couple bucks to spare. And where better to spend them than at Books-A-Million? :D :D :D I remembered Leilani Sunblade blogging about the Mistborn necklaces, so I bought the first book and… Ohhhhh maaaaaannnn! I love it so far!

Yes! Great choice! Oh, and Sanderson's not finished with the Mistborn world yet. If you like the series enough to keep reading, there's another published Mistborn book set a few hundred years later, and at least three more trilogies planned over different stages of technological development. And you can join the Cosmere Adventures battle thread, as well.

The dark sea annals. Maybe it was just enough of a let down that I didn't like it. Not gonna lie, I thought the Dark Sea Annals were Batson's best series and I still think that. And then he abandoned them to work on Dreamtreaders and Ghost . . . So the other day I realized that I had a couple bucks to spare. And where better to spend them than at Books-A-Million? I remembered Leilani Sunblade blogging about the Mistborn necklaces, so I bought the first book and… Ohhhhh maaaaaannnn! I love it so far! YES. I'm so glad you bought them; I knew you'd love them. As Dmitri said, there's more Mistborn after the first trilogy. And the rest of Sanderson's books are pretty awesome too. That blog post made me upset and happy at the same time. On one hand, there's finally going to be the rest of the Dark Sea Annals. On the other hand, he's rereleasing the first two and I'm not a fan of that. I don't want to have to buy them again.

Dmitri Pendragon: YEAH! :D I literally did a fist pump when I read your post. So glad there's more to read. And Cosmere is a Mistborn battle? xD Huh boy, I got characters lined up already. I should probably finish the first book at least before I join, though. *reads like the wind* Leilani Sunblade: Ooh, he has books that aren't set in the Final Empire? What're those like?

Leilani Sunblade: Ooh, he has books that aren't set in the Final Empire? What're those like? The Stormlight Archives (the only other ones of his I've read so far) are far and away the best written books I've read, easily outclassing even Mistborn. Unfortunately he's only written the first two out of ten so far.

I don't want to have to buy them again. :P Why would you need to buy them again? I'm only going to but the third one. But I agree with you that there some of my favorite books by WTB.

As Miklul said, there's the Stormlight Archives, easily his best series other than (and possibly over) Mistborn. That's another high fantasy epic- unfinished series, just to warn you. There's also the Steelheart series, which isn't Cosmere (Sanderson's multiverse, where all his adult novels are set) but is absolutely amazing anyway. It's supervillains and semi-dystopian and the main character is wonderfully geeky, whatever he says. Elantris, another fantasy, is good though I didn't find it amazing- it's worth reading once. And Warbreaker, which I really enjoyed but is probably 15/16 and up, just because there's very frank referrals to certain things (though no explicit details of said things). I don't want to have to buy them again. Why would you need to buy them again? I'm only going to but the third one. But I agree with you that there some of my favorite books by WTB. From what he said in his post, I got the impression that he was doing more in the rerelease than just changing the cover- that he was modifying some of the actual writing, adding more worldbuilding, etc. If the change is anything significant, I'll probably want the newer version.

So glad there's more to read. And Cosmere is a Mistborn battle? xD Huh boy, I got characters lined up already. I should probably finish the first book at least before I join, though. *reads like the wind* Heheh. Yeah, Cosmere Adventures is set in the galaxy in which Scadrial, the Mistborn planet, is located. And the next Mistborn series after The Final Empire begins with The Alloy of Law, a prequel of sorts to a trilogy with the same characters. The series you've begun and The Alloy of Law itself are the only Mistborn books he's published, but judging from the progress bars on Brandon's website, he's just about finished the first two in the next Mistborn series.

lucythevaliantReally? The Dark Sea books were my fave. I felt they were the closest thing to adult fiction he had before Ghost. But hey to each their own, I'm cool with that Sir Batson told me Ghost 2 is coming out soon! Can't wait!!!

October 6th for Shadows of Self. Then January 26th for The Bands of Mourning. That's his anticipated release dates, according to a recent post on his blog. brandonsanderson.com/calamity-is-done/

Sooo… I finished Mistborn tonight. O.o *SPOILERS FOR MISTBORN SPOILERS PLEASE BE CAREFUL* Kelsier… that was sad. But not unexpected. The last fight wasn't as great as I would have liked, but the twist about the Lord Ruler being a Terrisman was pretty clever. So all in all, I'm satisfied. Excited for the next book. :) What's the sequel called? *END SPOILERS FOR MISTBORN*

After having Sword in the Stars for three years, I decided I would force myself to start rereading it and finish it this time. I liked the plot. Morlan was cool. Batson's villains are always cool. But the other plot thread totally bored me. It was glaringly obvious, at least in my mind, who the Halfainin would be. I guessed it the very first moment that he came into the story. I did like the allegorical side of the story. I'd like to see how that unfolds in the rest of the series. Secondly, I wish that I got to read more about the Shepherd powers in use. They were interesting. (Which reminds me of what Morlan did at the very end of the book. Very cruel to do that to us readers, Batson, haha. ) I don't mind the typos and such; what really aggravated me was the "Belliken/Alastair" slashes. Every time I saw it, it would just take me out of the flow of the story. And my last criticism is that I really didn't care about Alastair at all until around page 300. He was, not surprisingly, both cold and hollow. Which made his transformation rewarding, but also hard for me to get through. I will admit, it took me only two days to read this book, which is way faster than I normally read. But that was mostly because I wanted to see how the Morlan, Maren and Aravel plot played out.

Elytra Silverfern: Oh, I won't kill you. If I kill you, you won't be able to think again later and give it a try. I agree that the Halfainin plot wasn't exactly suspenseful. (Like you, I guessed it pretty early on.) I think I mostly just ignored it, since the other plots and subplots seemed to take up more time/pages anyway. Seeing more of the Shepherd powers in use would've been awesome. Maybe in later books of the series, we'll get lucky. (And you think that ending's cruel, wait 'til you read The Errant King, if you haven't already.) Your last criticism is, I think, the main place you and I differ. The first time I read the book, yes it took me a little while to like Alastair but I did like him soon than you did. Was I as deeply attached to him as I could've been? No, but I still liked him, even if I got annoyed at times. Then by the end of the book, or maybe somewhere in book 2, he'd ascended to One of My Favorite Characters Ever. So, yeah. I need to reread these books . . . probably in a month-ish, when I'm between libraries.

One of Your Favorite Characters Ever? Wow. Do you have a list of your favorite characters you've ever read, or is it an abstract list?

I definitely enjoyed it, and I'd say it's worth reading if you liked The Sword in the Stars, particularly since the rest of the series will be coming out. Well, at the time. He's dropped a little since, but he's still pretty high on the list. Which is a mostly abstract list unless I divide it into subcategories.
