Huh boy. Just finished Well of Ascension. *SPOILERS FOR WELL OF ASCENSION* *Don't spoil this for yourself* *I'm looking at you, Raptor* That was a pretty wild ride, huh? Elend ended up being my favorite character. Making him a Mistborn, though… for some reason the idea of Elend in a Mistcloak makes me laugh. *END SPOILER* I'll probably start Hero of Ages today--we bought it from the bookstore just last week. I found that Elend became my favourite character too in this book. The main thing I look for in books is the message, and although Sanderson seems to be trying to go with the ideal of trust, I thought that Elend's honour served as a better theme for The Well of Ascension. And The Hero of Ages has my favourite scene in the whole series.

And The Hero of Ages has my favourite scene in the whole series. :D Yes, I was definitely more impressed by Elend's honor than than anything else--and that's a very difficult trait to exemplify in a character. I guess that's because honor is such a passive virtue. In the wrong hands it looks like weakness, but when *SPOILER SPOILER PLEASE RAPTOR DON'T DO THIS TO YOURSELF* Elend gave up the crown to Penrod... oh man. That was profound. *END SPOILER*

Yeah, it's ironic. What I mean is that I'm not going to say anything about whether Sanderson tops tWoA with tHoA. (I used the initials WoA for Well of Ascension until realising WoA was one of Warrior's nicknames. XD )

Lol. xD I dunno. Warrior of Aror is a pretty hard act to follow. I'm only a few chapters into the next book, though, so I'm holding my breath.

Don't worry. I'll just read ALL the spoilers from now on.
Back to the main topic. Has anyone read the Cape Refuge series by Terri Blackstock? My grandmother's read the first one, and it sounds really interesting.

Have any of you read The Merlin Spiral series by Robert Treskillard? It's a great read for anyone interested in the Arthurian legends. I recently showed them to my sister, and now she's hooked on them!

Lylyss: Glad you're enjoying Mistborn. @warrior: I've read them! It was a while ago, but I did. Really nice series, so fun. So...my uncle is trying to get me hooked onto Terry Pratchett. Anybody got any thoughts on this? Ooh! I just got into Terry Pratchett this year. They're good books- meant for older readers due to some references to certain things, but good all the same. I recommend starting with Guards! Guards!. Or you could start with The Color of Magic, technically the first book in the series, but Guards! Guards! is better. *SPOILERS for HERO OF AGES* *SERIOUSLY* DON'T READ* Huh? Oh. Hmmm. I don't know. It just feels important, if you know what I mean. Maybe we should go find it. Yeah. And leave it in a big, open field for the Inquisitors to pick up. Kelsier says that's a great idea. *END SPOILER*

*SPOILERS FOR MISTBORN TRILOGY* *headdesk* *headdesk* *headdesk* I can just see that happening. But technically, the Well is Preservation's power, so eventually the koloss Inquisitor would be moulded to act according to the Shard's Intent, which is practically the opposite of how Inquisitors act. *END SPOILERS*

It's kinda funny when you read a 'spoilers' conversation and you know exactly what's going on!! Except for one thing. What's "the Shard"? I don't remember reading anything in the Mistborn trilogy...

Preservation and Ruin are Shards. I don't remember if the term 'Shard' was used to describe them, but that's what they're called. Other Shards appear in other Cosmere books, like Honor, Cultivation and Odium in The Stormlight Archive; Endowment in Warbreaker; and Devotion and Dominion in Elantris. Starsinger: That's awesome!

O.o So I had this word problem today in Teaching Textbooks: "Zane is entering a spelling bee. The first prize is a $1,800 scholarship. If Zane has a 25% probability of winning, what is the expected value of the spelling bee for Zane?" I didn't know they had spelling bees in Luthadel. I before e, God said.
