After the Earth started to deteriorate, the world powers decided to colonize a recently discovered planet they called Nai Terram. They set out plans for ten colonies and began to ship out convicts and the homeless to found them. If they managed to survive to the colony's fruition they were promised freedom and a full pardon. Of those ten colonies, only five thrived. The others were ravaged by disease and/or the wild animals that already inhabited the planet.
Once the colonies were established, the Earth was searched for those who were considered to be most valuable for the colonies. People were genetically mapped and then given the number of children they were allowed to have.
Numbers were tattooed on the back of their necks in three different ink colors to identify their colony, ring, year of birth, and what number birth they were that year in their ring in their colony. Blue ink for InnerRing, green ink for MiddleRing, and black for OuterRing. The first number will be either 1-5 to identify which colony they're from. 1 being Probitas, 2 is Misertus, 3 is Fortitudo, 4 is Confortare, and 5 is Sapientiam. The second number is for the ring. Inner is 1, Middle is 2, Outer is 3. For the next number there'll be a dash and then it will be 35-- with the decade they were born in. Current year is 3578. And then another dash with the birth number. On average, in Probitas the births are kept to 100 per year in InnerRing, 600 per year in MiddleRing, and then 1,200 per year in OuterRing. It'll be different in different colonies. Probitas is over crowded so they put limits according to the size of each ring, but in Misertus for example they're underpopulated and mostly sterile. So births aren't limited there and they take in immigrants whereas Probitas is less likely to but will if genetics are good.
Population Control, or PC is their 'police'. You don't choose this profession. Every child must take the test at the age of ten to see if they have the requirements to be an officer. Those who pass must then dedicate ten years of their life to the job of an officer and then they're free to go. It's not so bad in the colonies with high life expectancies, but those with lower expectancies don't often live to graduate from it. Some specialize in genetics and are put in charge of the population decreases/increases. Others are police officers and work beats, others are detectives, others run prison facilities, others are judges, others are attorneys, basically they're the law. They're paid well, but their lives are strictly controlled and little individualism is allowed. Probitas PC officers are the least well paid and in OuterRing Probitas unless they're high up, they're as poor as the people they control. So they're usually easy to pay off.
Nai Terram has a sickness I'm calling PlagueV or for short it's called the plague or just V. It's an air born viral infection with no none treatment. The virus was in the atmosphere when the human colonists arrived. Some people are born with immunity, some aren't. What it does is it destroys whatever area of the body it infects. There are some treatments that can help someone recover, but they're risky and usually involve some other sort of treatable infection that will kill the PlagueV and then can be destroyed. However, it usually ends in death and as a result is a last effort only.
The gladiator rings are pretty much the only sort of entertainment. All gladiators are enslaved, but they're the colonies movie stars pretty much. They're treated well for the most part, and fairly coddled so they'll fight well. There are three types of matches: knockout (unarmed or blunt weapons), first blood, usually just called blood matches (armed with knives or similar weapon), and death matches (armed with any sharp weapon). Death matches are illegal in Probitas, Sapientiam, and Fortitudo, but not in Confortare or Misertus. Misertus is pushing for death matches to be outlawed though. In all colonies blunt weapon death matches are illegal. There are six gladiator ring brackets, one in each colony and then their champions are entered into a championship bracket. There are small time illegal fighting rings. Those are found only in the OuterRings and their fighters aren't slaves. Pretty much anyone who wants to fight in one can. Illegal fight rings pay more than most legal jobs in OuterRing Probitas and so they're especially popular there.
So I was thinking we'd set this in Probitas. That would be Cale's colony. When we left off there were people in Cale's house about dig bullets out of people, I think Darvel was chasing one of Leilani's characters, and then my gladiator character was showing Leilani's around.
Um, so form. For this you can do a typical form. Just please add population number. Population numbers are linked to files that PC keeps for every single citizen. These are things such as family, marriages, children, criminal records, etc. So I mean, we don't have to know them, but they're an integral part of the society so it'd be nice to have them. Oh, and please also add any convicted criminal offenses in the history. (Stealing, street fights, gang fights are pretty much the only ones you could be convicted of and not be 'put down' in. Probitas. Other colonies are more lenient. )
