"Hello, welcome to the Underground! Forum of Wayne Thomas Batson and Christopher Hopper's The Berinfell Prophecies series, Curse of the Spider King, Venom and Song and The Tide of Unmaking
There are some simple guide lines for the Underground.
General Conduct
A. Manners
(A-1) Profanity of any sort is NOT tolerated, including vulgar phrases or swear words.
(A-2) Giving out OTHERS’ personal information is not okay. Please just don’t do it.
(A-3) Respect other members and treat them as you would like to be treated.
(A-4) Help new people, this is mainly an attitude thing. Have a mentor frame of mind, not one of superiority.
(A-5) When in a debate, BE RESPECTFUL. The best approach is to explain YOUR viewpoint, not trash someone else's! Wield your words wisely. Don't say things like, "That's the stupidest thing I've every heard in my life!" etc… Something more mature like, "Well, I think that..." or even asking questions, is always better.
(A-6) Please do not double or triple post. If you want to add something to a previous post, please use the edit feature.
(A-7) Please stay on topic, if you are on a specific thread keep it on topic. If you are going off topic please move it to a chat thread.
(A-8) Condescending Remarks, this is important. Please don't be arrogant and condescending. This is a sign of immaturity. (in people of ANY age) EVEN IF SOMEONE GETS ON YOUR NERVES DON’T ACT RUDELY TO THEM! Do not use speech like, "Your arguments are remedial. Clearly you are an idiot with a squirrel's brain." Intentionally making other people feel 2'' tall does not mean you are intelligent.
(A-9) Thread Tags are meant to help in searching for topics, posts, and information anyone might need to find on the forum.
Here is a list of acceptable and unacceptable tags;
Acceptable
1. Things directly related to the topic (this includes for writing threads, the author's name, and major points of the story)
2. Brief quotes from conversations, only on the random threads and not everyday please.
3. A date of when the Online Thread passed the 200 page mark
Essentially, anything that is HELPFUL to the thread readers.
Unacceptable
1. Random tagging of one's own name
2. Conversations via tags
3. The letters "lol" or the like
4. Anything else not related to the thread's topic.
(A-10) Please, not everyone has not read all of Wayne Thomas Batson’s or Christopher Hopper’s books, before you give out a Spoiler please please please enclose it in spoiler tags. You can get these by putting [.spoiler][/.spoiler] around the spoiler, taking out the periods from the spoiler tags.
B. Thread making
The Underground is used by many people, before you make a thread think of these guide line first.
(B-1) Find out if there is a thread like the one you want to make.
To help you find out if there is a thread like it please;
Use the “Want to Make a Thread? -- BEFORE YOU DO READ THIS POST” thread, look manually though old threads, and ask others if they know of a thread like it. Link is here:
heedtheprophecies.proboards.com/thread/7/make-thread-ask
(B-2) Please don’t make “day only” threads. Like “I’m going to the zoo tomorrow! or “My grandparents are coming over!” We want to hear about things going on in your life but please post them on a chat thread.
(B-3) Please don’t make threads that are totally useless just to get attention.
For example:
Subject: "I'm being eaten by an alligator!"
Accompanying post: "Ha ha, made you look!"
(B-4) When you make a thread be sure to put it under the proper sub forum. E.g.
You want to make writing thread, please, don’t put it under “The White Lion Chronicles”
(B-5) Don’t make threads for two or three people only. If you want to talk to just one other person use a chat thread or some other form of communication. We don’t encourage cliques on the Underground, by making a thread for one or two people you are making other users feel left out.
(B-6) Are you a writer? Do you want to others to give you their input? Christopher Hopper and Wayne Thomas Batson have given us a Writer’s Fellowship sub forum. Feel free to make a thread for your writing! Everyone is allowed ONE writing thread.
So please don't do, “Chapter 1 of XYZ's book”, then make another thread titled, “Chapter 2 of XYZ's book”. Instead make a thread about all your writing, e.g., “XYZ's writing thread” or something like that.
Note from Goldarrow:
Everyone, I understand that there was a bit of confusion about why the Battle Threads were closed. The reason is we (the Sentinels and I am sure all of you) want this to be a fun, safe place for everyone regardless of age or background. To do this we feel the need to set up some rules, please help us by following them.
In closing I would like to remind you of Psalm 119:9; "How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word."
Battle Thread Rules
A. Romance
There may now be romantic relationships, but with limitations:
(A-1) All romance must remain appropriate and all-ages friendly.
(A-2) No kissing is permitted.
(A-3) Hand holding, a few hugs, and putting his/her arm around him/her is allowed.
(A-4) Relationships must remain boy/girl. There will be no same gender relationships.
While relationships are now allowed, we ask that they remain minimal and not completely take over the battle threads like they had when the no romance rules were made.
B. Violence
(B-1) No brutality or excessive violence.
(B-2) No description of abuse.
(B-3) Describe very little gore. (i.e. "Blood and guts flew everywhere, an arm here, a leg there" is not acceptable. Minimal description should be something like, "He stabbed the soldier and left")
(B-4) No torture. Allude to it if you must (i.e. "We'll capture him and put him in the torture room"), but no torture scenes.
C. Powerplaying and Godmodding
(C-1) Godmodding, or bending logic, physics, etc. so your character never loses, particularly making said character suddenly more powerful/capable/etc (e.g. the character developes previously unmentioned powers without a logical reason for why, or the character knows something he shouldn't logically know), makes roleplays much less enjoyable for all involved. Please refrain from doing it.
(C-2) Powerplaying, controlling another person's character without their permission or forcing another player to resort to godmodding through manipulation of events, also detracts from the enjoyment of a roleplay. Please don't do it either.
(C-3) You cannot kill/hurt another person's character without their permission. However, please do your best to be realistic about what characters can survive/evade.
D. Spam
(D-1) Please do not "spam" threads. (i.e., "Go to CaC2!") This (in the case of the Chat Thread) often makes the chatting boring and may make other members feel left out, should they not be part of that particular thread. Other members may find it plain annoying.
E. Suggestions
(E-1) Try making your posts more than 65 words during a battle, if not more. Longer posts make it easier for other members to catch up, and also causes you to think about what you post before you post it.
Thank you, Elves, and happy battling. If you would like to give your opinion or ask some questions, please contact the Sentinels at this thread: heedtheprophecies.proboards.com/thread/17/sentinel-feedback-thread
Also, if this incident happens again on accident, the Battle threads will be closed temporarily and the user asked to read the rules concerning this matter.
[These rules may be subject to editing and revision at any time, at the Sentinels' discretion.]
Thank you so much for following these guidelines, we hope you have a wonderful time on the Underground.
The Elves of the Underground, Endurance and Victory!
We all hope that you have a great time down here!
