Has anyone read the Marc Royce series by Davis Bunn—Lion of Babylon, Rare Earth, and Strait of Hormuz? I picked Rare Earth up at my church library on Sunday, devoured it, and went back for Strait of Hormuz, which I read today. For schoolwork, since I can justify it. Only problem is that the church library doesn't have Lion of Babylon. Anyway, the series is a great read for lovers of suspense novels. Fairly contemporary world, intelligence agents, well-researched content. Christian series with nothing I had to skip over. Highly recommended.

Sorry to double post, BUT: I finally read the first Dreamhouse Kings book, years after Jake the Sadaar first told me about them . . . oh, stars, it is not the book to read if you've recently moved, and I literally stopped partway through to thank God that my new house is only five years old, because if we'd ended up in an older one, I might've freaked. I mean, it was a really good book, and I'd definitely recommend it. But it was creepy. Not Ted Dekker creepy, but . . . yeah. Creepy.

Leilani Sunblade Ooh, I think I read that one a while ago (House of Dark Shadows, or something like that, right?). It was pretty good, and yes a little creepy. Buuut, I don't remember much about it. >.< I just remember liking it.

Idk323: Yep, House of Dark Shadows. It's probably less creepy than I made it out to be, actually; I think my recent move made it seem more than it actually was. Or maybe not. *shrugs* Did you read the rest of the series?

Has anyone read the Father Brown Stories by G.K. Chesterton? If not—you should!! If you like Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot, you'll love Father Brown. He's like the two, but he's also a priest and he's so sweet and kind to everyone, not stiff like Sherlock. I highly recommend it.

Is anyone here a fan of the Harry Potter books? I read them recently and found them to be quite enjoyable.

They are great... I'm literally just listening through the audiobooks currently... multi-tasking, so I'm (sort of) reading and painting at the same time

Sounds like a nice evening. Have you finished the books, or are you still getting through them? Who is your favorite character?

I've read them all before, and watched the movies a billion times. Goblet of Fire is the one I'm listening to currently. Hmm, I like Snape, as an undoubtably twisted, but complex, character. Don't like Dumbledore much. I'd have to say the twins are probably my favourites. And poor Neville. And Sirius.

I haven't seen all the movies, but I've read the books. Of the movies I've seen 2, 3, some of 4 and most of 5. I saw the end of 8, but not enough to say I've watched it. I find that I enjoy the books better than the movies, as usual. The movies seemed much darker than I imagined based on the books. My favorite characters are Sirius, Lupin, Severus, and the twins. How about yours, Dreadnaught?

We own all the movies they're in our "in-case-it-might-offend-someone" cupboard I like both. There was so much more to the books, but the movies are still good for film adaptations. I think the books are just as dark, but they're long enough that they are able to have other things in to lighten them slightly. With movies it's hard to have that much in. Oh yeah! Lupin too!

I like the movies and the books, and I'm not sure who my favorite characters are, I guess I would have to say Sirius, Lupin, and the twins.

Starsinger: "In-case-we-might-offend-someone cupboard", I like that! XD It's the truth, isn't it? The Harry Potter books are so good, but my siblings and I tend to keep them out of sight, especially when we go to perform at various churches for fear that someone will see them and shout "SACRILEGE!" @jliessa: Hey! Long time no see! I like your profile picture. It looks like Hades and Persephone to me.

Has anyone read the Keeper of the Lost Cities series by Shannon Messenger? They are middle grade books, and the main character is a major Mary-Sue, but I still love them!

It's my younger brother's birthday soon and he's turning 15. I was wondering if any of you knew any good Christian fantasy books for him?
Any you'd recommend?

Aviar Goldeneagle: Besides WTB? XP I honestly can't think of any Christian fantasy besides him... Otherwise, I'd say...LOTR if you think he's ready. The Chronicles of Prydain are pretty good, and the Redwall series are nice. Nothing weird happens in either (I mean, the characters in Redwall are animals) and I found them quite fun when I was that age.

Aviar Goldeneagle Goldeneagle: What other books does he read at the moment? What does he like? What's he comfortable with? I have plenty of books I could recommend, but if I know that stuff, I can give more targeted suggestions. (Also, what I was comfortable with at that age is not always the same as what others are comfortable with at that age. )

WookieeElf: He's read LOTR, which is his favourite book the same as mine, and he's read some Redwall books. I'll check out the other series you mentioned. Leilani Sunblade: yeah, he likes WTB books. Something kind of like those I guess. He's interested in Medieval Fantasy type books.

Aviar Goldeneagle: Have you looked at Chuck Black? He's got some cool books—even one series where it's a retelling of Christ's coming, but in Medieval fantasy. I liked them a lot.

WookieeElf, I've checked them out a bit, but haven't read them. They sound like perhaps they might be too young and also maybe too predictable since they're quite allegorical. What do you think?
