Glade: Hi! I am about as well as any other student in these dark ages, although perhaps better off than all you in the States. Sadly do not have much time for things like writing outside of study and looking after my dogs (a 7 1/2 year old, and an 11 week old). Congrats on getting married! And cool that you're getting back into writing again.

Leilani: Thank you so much! I’m definitely going to enlist you!!! I just have to dig the new story up this weekend, as I have it on paper for sure. I actually don’t remember if I have it on computer. And I am so excited for you!! How did you publish? Is it on Amazon? I need these books on my shelf!! And I love fairy tale retellings! I actually have a series I’m writing that’s a reimagined fairy tale! Which fairy tales did you use? If you say the one I used, I’ll laugh! Starsinger: I’m sorry that school must have been so challenging for you! At least you’re doing all right! And two dogs? With such varied age range! How sweet! What breeds?

Starsinger : Wait, since when do you have dogs? (Also: puppy! Any chance of sharing pictures?) Glade : I look forward to it! And yes, I published via Amazon KDP; all my books are available through there. (Link: www.amazon.com/Sarah-Pennington/e/B07H3DJG1M/ref=dp_byline_cont_ebooks_1). I have an Asian-inspired Snow White/Goose Girl retelling, a steampunk Rapunzel retelling, and a Jazz Age-inspired Twelve Dancing Princesses retelling, and I'm currently finishing up a sequel to the Snow White/Goose Girl one that's the Twelve Dancing Princesses crossed with Hades and Persephone. What's your reimagined fairy tale series?

Glade I honestly feel that studying here is one of the more stable things to have at this time -as long as you're eligible for student allowance, which is basically just a benefit for students if you're over a certain age or from a more disadvantaged background, fortunately I'm an old fart because I started studying later than most so I've had that throughout and not had to worry about the money side of things. They are both NZ Heading Dogs (a working dog offshoot breed of border collies, which are shorthaired). The puppy was orphaned at 2 weeks, and is shared with my friend, we had planned to flat together next year so we'd been splitting costs, with him living at mine at the moment, as she can't have him there, but covid has kinda screwed her job prospects here, so she'll probably move away and he'll go with her, so I suppose I'm kinda just his foster. Leilani Sunblade Um, I've had Queen, the older one for almost 2 years now, and Dante, the puppy, for a couple months. I had a kitten for a while too, but he's with my family now because I couldn't have him at this flat.

Bonus photo of Queen with Grendel, the kitten: Also edit: Quick clarification on the kitten, he was a rescue of one I found wild on the farm during lockdown. Wild cats are usually shot because they carry diseases that can pass on to stock (also pests to native birds, and they have protected bushland on the farm as well). It's not like I bought a kitten and then gave him up. I would have loved to keep him, but there's a risk my flatmate's dog would try to eat him. And one of the little tot when he was still being bottle fed: Attachments:

Starsinger: Queen and Dante are both beautiful and adorable; thank you for sharing pictures. That's sad that you'll lose Dante, though.

Leilani Sunblade It is sad, but it's best for him, I can't afford emergency vet care for 2 dogs on my own as a student. Whereas my friend will be a working vet, so can get his care at cost or do it herself, and also afford things like agility classes, and scent training, which he'll need because he is a working breed so needs something to focus his energy and brain on. So I'm sadder that I'll not potentially not have my friend around, because we'd both been looking forward to flatting together and actually being able to run our own house the way we want and have a bit more freedom to do things like invite people over for meals after church, or just having a space that people can come if they need a meal, or someone to listen, or if they need somewhere to stay the night kinda thing.

Starsinger: That makes sense. And I am also sorry that you're missing out on flatting with your friend. All your plans sound like they would've been fabulous.

Leilani Sunblade *shrugs* It's kinda how life is at the moment. Might do something else exciting instead, if I manage to get my student allowance to continue over summer it means I won't have to be in town for a job, so I might just tent out on my brother-in-law's farm instead, and maybe for the start of semester next year as well, until it starts to get cold, would save me a lot on rent and I think it would be rather fun, maybe make up for not being able to travel this year either.

(We should probably move this to the chat thread, since it's not a writing topic; I'm going to respond over there.)

Starsinger: oh my goodness, they’re beautiful! And I’m sorry about having to give up a pet. I completely understand! I had to rehome my dog when I got married because my husband is allergic to high-shedding dogs. Luckily we found a sweet family with kids and lots of land for her to run around on!
Leilani: I’m sorry, I was going to post something today but I got called in to work, because there’s a big inventory coming up! But, I did find the physical manuscript; it’s nowhere on digital file for some reason, which is odd, since I printed it out 😅. All I need to do is retype it, which I’ll try to do soon!
And oh my gosh, this sounds amazing!! I cannot wait to read these!!! I’m so excited! They’re right up my literally alley!!
I started with the Pied Piper, and then the sequel has the same characters but it’s loosely based on the Steadfast Tin Soldier. The third is supposed to be a mashup of Rumplestiltskin and another one the name of I forgot, I think it’s just The Soldier. The fourth is supposed to be Robin Hood!

No worries! Take the time you need; I'll just let the anticipation build up. xD
Thanks for the compliment to my stories! I hope you do indeed enjoy them! Your retellings sound fun; I don't think I've read retellings of most of those.
