Puzzlement temporarily clouded the woman's face. "Flag . . . my . . . badge? I do not-" She shook her head. "Ah, but it does not matter, now does it?"
((G2G, doing stuff. See you later!))

Steve found himself in Union City, and a little disappointed. He had made his way all the way to the station in question only to find a big concrete wall in the way. I was really looking forward to seeing the wreckage... Looks like it wasn't a natural earthquake, unless I missed it when earthquakes started popping concrete walls out of the ground.
"Welp, now what?" He asked out loud, to no one in particular. I guess I could look for whoever, or whatever, caused me to waste so much of my valuable time...

((Oh. Oops. Ignore that earlier post, then.))
"It's a semi-secret organization!" Lydia hissed back. "I don't have a badge!" Taking the next best option, she strengthened the glow around her hands until the woman couldn't possibly miss it. She advanced slowly as well, unaware that Jack was doing the same. "I strongly suggest that you put your hands up and don't put up a fight."
The woman lifted her hands to shoulder level, her smile still dangerously teasing. "Oh, what's this all about? Don't tell me you two are going to do something foolish."
The ground beneath started faintly rumbling once more- strongest near the woman, and growing steadily fainter as it moved outward. At the alley's end, it couldn't even be felt.

(Sorrrry had to go to work)
The illusion of Jack spoke, note making an effort to control his tongue. "Dangit Lydia, her lines are worse than an action flick parody." He concentrated and made a couple convincing idle movements with his illusion. "And guess what? I forgot the plastic bullets." Just then, the cold muzzle of his gun touched the perpetrator's temple. "Give me an excuse." Jack hissed. "Move one single muscle."

"I think you already have an excuse. And I don't need one." In the space of five breaths, the ground in a circle around the woman- including the ground beneath Jack- dropped downwards, creating a donut-shaped pit. Meanwhile, the ground directly beneath the woman shot upwards in a pillar. "And- for the record- the reason things become cliché is because they work."
Lydia dashed forward, sending an energy ball at the woman. "Well, guess what else works? The heroes defeating the villains."
The woman swayed to the side, her pillar swaying with her so she kept her balance. "True. But never in the first encounter."
The energy ball flew past her, and exploded in midair some distance away.

((Ah, got it. And she probably could disarm him . . . but I've got other ideas. IDK if it'll actually be more feasible or not, but . . . yeah.)) "An excuse to kill me? I think you already have one." The woman remained still, but if Jack's threat bothered her, it didn't show. "Of course, if you find an excuse to kill, so will my guard behind your friend." As she spoke, a dark figure- half indistinct in shadows that wrapped around it like a cloak- appeared behind Lydia. Lydia started to turn, but only got halfway before the figure grabbed her ponytail and jerked back. She stumbled backwards, firing off energy at the person- but when it hit, rather than exploding, it rolled off and combusted several feet back, momentarily silhouetting Lydia and her attacker. A moment later, an arm wrapped around her neck in a chokehold, and the point of a knife pricked at the side of her neck. ((Does that work any better? I'm assuming that Jack's concern for Lydia would keep him from shooting my villainess the moment her guard appears.))

Jack growled. "Fifty bucks." He muttered under his breath. This was going to be taxing, but it was the best plan he had. He illusioned taking one step back and lowering the pistol as he invisibly crept back towards Lydia. The distance was agonizing.

((Sorry, my internet decided to be annoying.))
The woman took two steps away from Jack's illusion. "That's what I thought you'd choose. Your sort are terribly predictable."
Calm . . . Lydia took as deep a breath as she could manage and slowly reached up towards the arm around her neck. If she could get a grip on it, then send a charge of energy into him . . .
"I suggest not." The woman's voice stopped her. "What did your friend say? 'Move one muscle,' and he'd shoot?" A pause. "A knife may be less painful than a bullet, but it will kill you just as quickly." She turned away slightly, studying Jack's illusion.
Lydia froze. So much for that. Now what? Most of her tactics would be easily detected, whether through motion or a tell-tale glow. But one . . . Lydia reached out for the strands of energy that wove through most people, ready to tug the ones in her attacker free. But- there were none. What the . . .

"Predictable?" Came Jack's voice as he lashed out a high kick to knock away the knife-weilding hand. His illsusion warped and vanished as if he had teleported. "I hate it when people call me that." As soon as he completed his kick, he turned and fired two point-blank rounds at the second enemy.

As soon as the knife was away from her neck- leaving a stinging cut, but nothing serious- Lydia broke free from the chokehold and sent a ball of energy bursting towards the woman. In the space of a few seconds, however, the ground around the woman hollowed out, forming a pit, while that directly beneath her feet shot upwards in a pillar. The stone pillar shattered as Lydia's energy ball hit it, but the woman had already jumped. She landed a few feet away, laughing to herself. "I take back my words- well done; you had me fooled for a minute or two."
Meanwhile, the second attacker turned on Jack as soon as Lydia broke free- but quickly crumpled as the shots hit him.

Jack had already slipepd back into the mode of operation that he had almost forgotten about, but his muscles and instincts had not. He fired another shot into the falling form for good measure, then whirled to take aim at the girl and squeezing off two shots.

No time for a pillar- but there didn't need to be. The ground directly beneath the woman flowed rapidly downwards; the rock before her rushed up like it had in front of the station door, but faster. The bullets, and Lydia's accompanying energy burst, shattered against the solid wall. ((Sorry again; my mom was helping me edit an essay. I G2G now. See you tomorrow!))

Anna rocked herself slightly, looking at the wall and the pit. Slowly, an idea began to form. Wrapping her arms around her knees, she hid her face in them so only part of her eyes were showing. Slowly, her eyes took on a golden sheen, and the wall began to quiver...

Steve's search through Union City was boring. He didn't even know who--or what--he was looking for. However, he did pick up several interesting bits of information from the people around the site of the disaster, such as apparently hearing gunshots or flashes of light from a certain area. Steve didn't like the idea of leaving without discovering something. Reaching the area described by the scared civilians, Steve hid and tried to see if there was anything true about their rumors.

Lydia chewed her lip, her gaze fixed on the wall of stone. "I already hit the signal for backup. Don't know when they'll get here, though."
The woman's voice called from above, "Not nearly in time, I'm afraid."
Lydia looked up to see the woman leaning out an open window in the building to their right, waving cheerfully. "I'll be gone by then, amusing as this has been. My brother will want to hear that Earth's 'heroes' will make fine sport after all. Until next time!" She disappeared from view, whether simply because she'd moved away from the window or because she'd literally disappeared- either was possible.

((For the record: all of this villain's powers have been, at this point, revealed. Not all of them have been recognized for what they actually are, but they've all been revealed.))
Lydia once again followed Jack's shots with an energy ball- both of which were once again blocked by a suddenly-forming wall, which this time grew up from the windowsill, malforming the sides of the windows. Both went back to normal as soon as the projectiles shattered against them.
Once the woman had disappeared, Lydia scowled. "So, she can teleport too. Lovely."

((Fair enough. If you wish me to edit, I shall; I just took the easiest way I could think of to let her stick around long enough to say what she has to say without getting killed in the first fight.))
Lydia nodded. "Great idea- and I need to tell headquarters about this. After I check on Rachel, anyway." She turned and started jogging back towards the station. ------- Rachel, meanwhile, was keeping as busy as she could making sure people stayed calm within the station. All the while, however, she kept one eye on Anna, and quietly- almost imperceptibly- discouraged people from bothering the other girl.

As Lydia rounded the corner to head back to the station, she nearly ran into a young man about her own age. She took a hasty step back, recognizing him. "Luke? Oh. I guess you're my backup."
"Yeah. And it looks like I'm late." Luke peered down the alley. "What happened? You two ok?" He nodded to Jack. "Hey. Jack, right?"
