I'm pretty sure I watched a debunk of Lars Andersen xP
EDIT: It's a neat video, to be sure. But I want to see some actual studies to back up the claims made. Plus the narrator was a bit awkward. And I honestly think that there was more than one way that archers were utilized. Finally, taking ancient artwork as a reliable source only works so far. I took a visual arts course this past semester, and not all work is meant to be accurate, nor did the artists necessarily know anything about what they were drawing/arting.
Still cool though.

I've read the debunk, and all it really does is question his historical claims.his archery is very real, and it is entirely possible to catch arrows in midair. There is a Guiness world record (43 arrows caught at 8 meters in 2 minutes). Also, his historical claims can be entity true for a certain time period or place...archery practices were different in a thousand different places at a thousand different time periods.
As for the art thing, well I'm an art major student, and in antiquity art was actually meant to be a form of communication and preservation of history. Mythilogical or folk art aside, most fictional art came into prevalence in recent centuries.

Fair enough. And yeah, I guess it was more about that, and quivers. Depending on the situation, a quiver is certainly useful. Especially because you can carry more arrows. If he couldn't use a quiver I think he was probably just using it wrong. :P
I'm gonna trust you with the art knowledge, then :P
I wonder, though, is a back quiver or a side quiver really more useful? Sort of like a back vs a side scabbard.

Ellron Silvertree: I'd think the back quiver is better. I did an archery class where our arrows were stashed in little metal cups by our feet that rose up to around my knees (I was 5'6 then, haha) and it took FOREVER to get them up and nock them. Over the shoulder, it's easier to nock the arrows in place.

I like side quivers because its so easy to bring them right onto the string. As for back and side scabbards, back is usually for longer swords. THough y'gotta be practiced in pulling the big ol thing out haha

As cool as the video is, I'm in Ellron`s camp of speculativeness. The most basic question is, what kind of draw weight is that bow? Does he have another archer with him behind the camera? Was CGI involved? Does he play video games? Is Legolas his half-brother? Will we ever know the truth about 1984?

So my friend got me a nice practice longsword for my birthday... (No pictures, unfortunately)
And then I got together with seven of my friends and had battles. 'Twas exceedingly fun.

Aviar and his brother just had to beat my record! I got 79 metres with my crossbow, and they have 102 with their bows. The thing is that I made my crossbow and they didn't make their bows.

My sister got me this for my birthday: I did the paracord detailing myself. I think it's about 10-12 inches long, counting the handle.

Hiiiiiii . . . I need help from people who know more about guns than I do. I'm making a character for a Reckoners* RP (on another forum), and I need to figure out what guns she'd have. She's in operations/tactics, so she doesn't do a lot of field work, but she does still need weaponry. At the moment I'm thinking definitely a pistol (maybe two?) and she'd maybe have a rifle because she likes rifles, even though she doesn't really need to use it very much? But I need suggestions on what specifically she'd have. Thanks in advance!

Hai! Leilani SunbladeWell first off I've gotta throw out there that two pistols wouldn't really serve any practical purpose, cause you can't actually shoot two pistols at once (unless you're a 55 year old professinal) and by drawing a second gun you may as well just reload the first. Could you elaborate on her role in tac-ops? A rifle would probably be needed for anything more than 50 yards, or at least a carbine. But if you can give me more details then I can give you more details. Also...would you mind giving me more details on this other forum? I've been thinking of taking up another forum in addition, to supplement the roleplays which are sorely lacking here these days. Unless it's all fandom RPs...I aint about that xP

Leilani Sunblade: I'm not that well-versed in gunnery like NightBlade is, but he's got some good points. My personal fave is a double-barreled shotgun, tho. Wait what. NB no, you no leave.

NightBlade: Yes! Thank you! She doesn't need two pistols. I initially said two because my mindset is "more weapons are better as long as they're not weighing you down a ton." Y'know. Just in case. But one pistol is fine; I'd still need suggestions on what type. Basically, she's in charge of information and keeping eyes on everything- so on a mission, she's usually not going to be fighting; she'll be in the base or another secure location, watching what's going on and getting information to field operatives. And when not on a mission, she's the one getting intelligence on the enemy via various sources. (So the term tac-ops may be misleading for what she actually does? But it's the term that the person in charge of the roleplay used.) Um. The forum is for students at The Potter's School, so . . . I'd love for you to be able to join, but that might be a tiny bit difficult. xD Sorry. WookieeElf: Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think my character is much of a shotgun type, though . . .

She's both from and in the U.S. (Specifically, I'm thinking she's from PA, though I might change that . . .)
Thanks for the pistol suggestion. That one looks like it'd be good. (And she'd not have the compact, as both she and I have normal-sized hands and an aversion to pistols with small grips . . .)
"Sent off" to design school? I thought that was your choice? Why'd you get "sent off" instead of doing the training? Anyway, the rifles also look good . . . can you give me more details on what I'm looking at in the second and third examples?
No, it's not. Though I feel like I've been hearing about that forum a lot lately.

Post by NightBlade on Jan 28, 2016 14:12:16 GMT
Ooh yeah! Do PA! Ok cool! The compact is smaller so I she would want the full size one then. As for the rifles, one of the first two would be American. The second is an SR-25, basically an M-16 or AR-15 chambered in 7.62mm(.308 caliber) for longer range and bigger punch than their counterparts. The third is am Israeli rifle. I didn't really want to go to college, but my parents convinced me that I need to and which one I needed to go to. So yeah Yeah? Hmm I haven't heard it brought up since...well since older members were here. I just dunno if they have bigger roleplays. I'd never leave the UG, just maybe join another place on the side.

Heh, thanks.
On the rifles: Thanks. I'm thinking I'm going with the second one? But I might change my mind.
Ah. Makes sense.
Someone on the Moodle site was asking me earlier this month if I was on Holy Worlds- that's the last time I heard about it.

NightBlade: Coolness! That's a really nice-looking knife. And Damascus steel is the fancy, really strong, never-loses-its-edge sort, right?

Post by NightBlade on Apr 21, 2016 16:06:23 GMT
Thanks! Yeah that's it. The folded, twisted grain of the metal is basically like wood, it makes it super strong and gives it an optimal carbon content and crystalization. However, the edge still needs care just as any other blade, and oil as well.

Yay, I remembered! And I should've guessed . . . I've heard about it in books mostly, and some bits I suppose get a bit exaggerated.
