NZ is ahead of EU, and it is confusing. I've been ?lucky? enough to make friends across the world, so I have a decent understanding of the timezones. The only thing I can think of is memorizing key locations for you. Ex. I think of China 14 hours ahead, Western EU 7 hours, UK 6 Hours. There are many American's who get confused with the timezones in America. In my first professional interview, I was talking to a company in the timezone ahead of me and didn't notice. On the day of the interview, my dad texted me an hour before I was going to start my interview to check I had figured that out. Thankfully, I was already dressed for the video interview so I just kicked my roommate out in a panic and logged in 5 minutes late, the ladies I spoke with apologized for not confirming the timezone. XD If it helps, I always forget Alaska and Hawaii times and need to look them up. You're 19 hours ahead of me... That's crazy to realize. Like if it's midnight here, you're at 7pm for that day. Edit: I really need to move someplace warmer.

Yeah, Europe was fairly easy, we just always assumed half a day, give or take an hour. But like back in my rp days on the old UG it was always a bit of calculating to figure out the best time to be on to catch you guys in the States when you’re active.
Hahah, well I believe many Americans have been eyeing up NZ, particularly this past year 😂

NZ is looking even more amazing in the past 3 days... I have no comment about what you are likely watching on the news over there... I am speechless at my nation concerning all (political) parties involved.

Hahaha, I can imagine it.
Yeah. My mate read out all the ‘breaking news’ headlines to me the other day when we were on a hike, ‘cause he knew it’d give me a laugh. All but one were to do with your plight. Honestly at this point there’s not much way to react other than to laugh (so as not to cry from frustration) and ask ‘the heck?’. Plus a sarcastic commentary here and there, and count ourselves very lucky.

Yeah, it was. It is a wee bit of a shame we didn’t get heaps of time to enjoy it seeing as we were doing a field mapping assignment, but worth it none-the-less.
It’s been great, people and lecturers included, who have been more relaxed seeing as this is the last time it’s been run because the uni’s canning anything that costs too much to run.

Kirenyth Fireblade Thanks! I just regret that I didn’t bring my actual camera with me that day, although surprisingly the phone did manage to do it justice, and hopefully my film one did also.

I've been pleasantly impressed by phone pictures from the recent models (waiting to get said nice new model ). The only complaint is if you ever need to zoom or want to specialize the focus. For your image, it really did turn out great. Also, you have a film? How do you like it? Do you develop the pictures yourself? After spending the better part of my evening sorting through photos and trying to decide which ones to get printed, I found myself missing the ease of just taking a picture and getting the entire roll developed. Still, I also love my digital. Hi Fireblade!

Ah, the thing is my phone is definitely not a recent model and is well on its last legs (I'm just hoping to make it last until the end of my degree and I get a budget that's no longer a student one XD).
I do. I currently have two functional ones, one is battery operated and a good ol' point and shoot and he turns out some pretty beautiful photos (got him for $4.50 from a thrift store), and the other is a trusty old Olympus Trip which I got from my Oma, which is a bit more analog and I haven't yet completed a film in it to see how they've turned out yet. (I also have a Pentax SLR but his shutter fires when you're advancing the film, so he'll need a bit of tinkering). I do not currently develop my own film, but I'd love to if I ever had the time. I definitely like getting the roll of film back with the photos scanned for me, it's definitely an up on digital for that, because I do struggle to get the motivation to process my digital photos (lacking decent software currently as well)... particularly as for the main part atm my photos are just for myself, the film ones I like to print and put in an album, and the digital are mainly to build up a stock or reference photos for painting (which alas I also lack the time for at the moment).

I have a 6-year-old phone, so I sympathize with you. (even after school, finances can be tough... sadly). I'd love to upgrade but at the same time don't like a lot of the new features. For example the lack of a headphones jack. I'll bite the bullet and get a new one someday. That's really cool you work with film. With my DSLR, I understand the principles to use film, but just don't think I would be able to get pictures to turn out. After college, I am sure you'll find time to do more of what you love.

Yeah, but even if I don’t end up in a qualified job, full-time work at minimum wage will be more that I get with my student allowance. (It was even a couple years ago, and minimum has gone up a few times since then). I could get a job on top of allowance, but I myself have very much struggled with working and studying full time, and have a healthy respect for anyone who can.
With the point and shoot film there’s literally nothing that goes into it, except for making the iso/asa match the film (although sometime I’ll sneakily adjust it if light’s lacking). I actually struggled a bit with my DSLR until I got a lens which, because it’s got a different mount and needs an adaptor, I have to use full manual, and I’ve found that so much more intuitive than adjusting from the camera, then only change I make on the camera is the ISO, and light conditions/white balance of necessary.

I worked through college, but I had no social life in grad school and was overall miserable. Questioning to this day if it was worth the struggle. I got very lucky working at a hotel where I could do HW if it was slow, which was pretty often. I likely did 70% of my grad school HW on the clock. And that's good to hear the wage gap isn't so bad over there. I don't understand that side of economics as I should... but I've also been on both sides (minimum wage and okay income) and realized financial education is imperative to closing the wage gap, even more so than raising the minimum wage. Do they teach financial education in high school over there? Yeah, DSLR cameras are much better when in manual mode.

Haha, nope. They do not. It would be sensible it they did.
For sure! I’m meaning now I manually have to adjust aperture on the lens itself, and autofocus is not a thing, so I can physically see the changes in light or focal depth that something like a change in the aperture makes, which feels more natural to me. Whereas I knew theoretically how it worked before but it didn’t really fit in place in my brain quite right. So now it’s easier to get a good balance of the iso/shutter speed/aperture.

Nah, unload if you need. I don’t have Skype downloaded anymore, but you’re welcome to message me via fb if you want to chat privately!
I’m doing pretty alright these days. Kinda been knocked out by a head cold the last few days though, and at a bit of a loose end until Uni starts up next week again, never been particularly good at twiddling my thumbs and waiting.

It’s fine, it’s nothing private. Just not fun for me. DX Yeah, so back in December I got fired from my job. I have asthma that was acting up around then, and they kept sending me home from work because of that saying it was covid procedure. Which to a certain extent yes, but I had already been tested several times and I knew for a fact it was simply asthma. They sent me home for another week, and when I came back I asked to speak with my general manager and supervisor about it and how I was feeling discriminated against because of it. They basically said it was my fault because I hadn’t mentioned it before then (which I had) and threatened to demote me because of my health issues. When I told them they couldn’t demote me for that reason and I would file a complaint if they did, they just ended up firing me.
I hated the job anyway, so it was mostly fine. Plus my health recovered a lot faster when I didn’t have to deal with the stress they were causing me, but I still need the money. And it’d probably be okay if I could manage to actually do things throughout the day, but I haven’t been out of the house much, I have zero motivation, and I’m dealing with depression. And all of those things have caused me to completely screw up my sleep schedule, so that’s fun.
And then on top of that, I was dealing with an ear infection I had since back in September. Both my ear drums are ruptured, and when I was finally able to get them checked out, I was told it would be better to have them repaired, so I’m recovering from ear surgery I had on the 2nd of this month. Which is good I was able to have the surgery, but it hasn’t helped me feel like I actually want to accomplish anything.
Ahh, yeah. I hate the idea of sitting around with nothing to do. That’s probably one of the reasons I had so many hobbies while I was homeschooling in high school. Lol. Well, that and I was procrastinating my actual school work.

Ouch, I'm sorry. That's really Shoot. Is there a process by which they could be held accountable for that? I don't know your employment laws, but I do know here that that would be 100% a case to take to independent tribunal, and would end up with a settlement in your favour. But yeah, I don't know your system or how affordable lawyers would be in this case. I totally get you on the not doing things/zero motivation/depression/a million hobbies in highschool kinda thing. It's part of the reason I'm so ready to get back to Uni, so I have things I actually need to do, and some kinda of pattern/routine to keep going, which is why summer break is actually one of my lowest times of year, although this year wasn't too bad because I took some summer papers, so have only had a month off. It's definitely a vicious wee cycle to be sucked into, I hope you manage to find motivation to at least start with some little things. I'll be praying for you <3 Oh. Procrastination is a wonderful thing, and a bad habit I still need to break as well

I filed a complaint and they’re trying to see if both parties can reach a resolution through mediation first, and if that doesn’t work, or my work place just completely refuses to mediate, they’ll do an investigation. The problem with that is they can still drop my case at anytime. Which won’t mean there wasn’t any discrimination, but just that there wasn’t enough evidence. After that I can take it to court to try and prove it myself, but I really don’t even want to think about how much time and money that would actually take. I really appreciate the prayer! Honestly I probably do just need some sort of consistent schedule. That would probably help me feel more productive and less like I’m just lazing around the house. But I really suck at setting and keeping that sort of thing for myself, especially if there are no consequences if I don’t stick to it. XD At least looking back on it I can say good things did come from my procrastination back then.

That's good that there's kinda something you can do! I suppose finding a new job in the current climate's going to be pretty tough for you?
Saaaame. Which is why I'm very very grateful that the covid situation here is pretty much under control so we can actually go to uni still. Last year was a mess when classes were online and deadlines weren't really in stone.
Indeed. The times here are particularly fond memories to look back on.

Yeah, it was nice to know I could at least at attempt to fix the situation. It was really unfair to me to fire me for something that I had no control over. Especially since every time I feel bad and overthink things I have to remind myself all over again that I’m not at fault for this and there wasn’t really anything I could have done better.
Yeah, it’s gonna be pretty tough. I had been at that company on and off since I was 16. (Like 8 years ago.) It’s always been hard to get a job in my city, and I don’t have any other good experience for anything else. Plus when I do find a place to work, I’ll need it to pay me enough to pay all my bills.
They are. It’s always fun going back and looking at conversations. I haven’t done it for a while.

Ah yes. I love how are brains are capable of knowing something and yet having to be constantly reminded of it. Ya know, ‘cause life isn’t enough of a struggle most days already.
Been there, savings are still recovering at snail pace. I hope you do manage to get something, unemployed with bills is definitely not a great place to be 😕
Nothing like a good dose of nostalgia. And in my case some hefty cringing 😂

Ugh, seriously. Like I’m very conscious of when my thoughts are irrational and are stemming from a more depressed place, but that doesn’t mean it magically fixes the problem.
It’s not fun at all. And it sucks because I wouldn’t be half as worried if my unemployment money would go through. But of course it’s not going to be that easy or simple. DX
Oh my gosh, so much cringing. Like... I went back and read some of my first writings too, and I seriously can’t believe how awful they were. XD But I can’t help but think fondly of them since I enjoyed writing them.

Aw, that is sad. I don’t go through my writings as much as I used to, but it’s nice to know they’re there if I want to. Of course, they’re in like... At least three-four different places so there’s always a chance I’ll have to search everywhere for what I’m looking for.
