youtu.be/BQUM3Znl7hQBehold, the fruit of the last six weeks of my life. I made a movie. Now I may finally rest.

Only just! I recently moved home in light of the whole pandemic thing, and now I'm in quarantine because I came from out of state so I can't get a job yet. It's... Fun?

jliessa44: HI! I was just thinking about you the other day! How are you doing? Ellron Silvertree: Oooof, that's rough. How long is quarantine? I'm doing ok. 100% online classes are not my cup of tea, as it turns out, at least not after I've gotten used to having them on campus. But I'm writing lots, so that's something. And I never leave the house except to go to the library anyway (which has been closed since I got back), so I don't feel like I'm missing anything. xD

I’m doing alright. It’s finals week and I have two papers and one exam. I was supposed to go to Ecuador in May for a study abroad, but clearly that’s cancelled. Lol.
I absolutely hate online classes. Tbh the only reason that I haven’t failed out of everything since the switch is that my professors all decided to make papers instead of exams.
I’m also out of work bc my brother is immunocompromised so I don’t want to expose him. I’m freaked tho over what’s going to happen once the restrictions are lifted bc I know my job will demand I come back.

Good luck with your papers and exam! Online classes can be rough, but at least you're nearly done.
Were you still working as a pharmacy tech? Or had you switched jobs? (If you were still working at the pharmacy, yeah, I can see why you didn't want to risk it.)

The self quarantine was two weeks—it was up last Tuesday.
Since I've moved home, though, I need to start looking for a job. A weird thing to do when everyone is shouting to stay home (the importance of which I certainly understand), but I gotta make money, you know?

Well, at least you can do things, sorta. And yeah, I getcha. My job search is on hold until May, but that's because I literally have no time to search between classes and writing (which, at this point, IS a job, even if it's not going to pay me anything for at least six months, probably).
(Side note — a friend of mine sent me a list of sites for remote/online job positions. I don't know what kind of job you're looking for or if you're even remotely interested in that (ha, I made a bad pun without realizing it, LOL) or if your skill sets are translatable to remote work, but if you want, I can send the list on to you.)

Ohio is closed until May 1st but might go on longer. So yeah. No work until it’s officially opened and work can make me come back. I’m at a Starbucks in a Kroger right now.
It’s freaking finals week rn tho, which sucks. Lol

I think everything's closed down until May or later almost everywhere. But yeah. That also doesn't sound like a good place to be in the middle of a virus. >.>
I feel that. My capstone research ended up taking longer than I thought, so now I have five days in which to write the actual paper and put together a presentation for it. (Well, technically I have a week to get the paper in submittable condition. But still.)

I actually left one of the least infected parts of Ohio to come home -_-
A couple of my friends are still doing video work and stuff back out there and I'm sad because I can't do any of it with them lol.
But I'm graduated so no online classes for meeee :)
What are you guys studying?

Starsinger: Yeah. Nice to see you, by the way! How's life? Ellron Silvertree: Aw, I'm sorry. But lucky! I'm just about done with a degree in Professional Writing and Information Design.

I have one more final paper over chromatography due on Monday and then I get a two week break before summer classes and I’m so ready. Lol.
That sucks, Ellron. Luckily for me it was the opposite. I think we’ve had six people or so in the surrounding area but I was in Columbus. I’m currently finishing up my second year of Biochemistry after getting my associate of art.

Leilani Sunblade Life’s been a bit crazy for multiple reasons including the obvious 😂 I think I’ve managed to get it back into something sensible though, and having to adjust to online classes as well, but pulled out of one paper just to reduce stress a bit. How’re you?

Starsinger: Glad you've managed to mostly adjust. I'm doing well; I've officially graduated college, and now I'm back to job-searching. So that's fun. And I had to sort out insurance the last couple days. >.< jliessa44: Oof. Good luck.

Leilani Sunblade All the best for job searching! And congrats on graduating. What did you study? It's been so long, I'm not sure I know or if I've ever asked.

Starsinger: Thanks! I majored in Professional Writing and Information Design (one major; basically it's writing and basic graphic/page design for business and brand contexts), with minors in Graphic Design and Web Design. The goal is to go into marketing or corporate comm (which is basically marketing, but aimed inside the company).

Leilani Sunblade That’s cool! I am a wee bit sad that with what I’m studying all fun writing and art is pretty much put to the side at the moment. But I also love studying and am interested in what I’m doing, so... *shrugs* Definitely wouldn’t have seen myself doing a BSc back in the day if I said what I wanted to do...not that I had any idea then 😂

Leilani Sunblade It's just a BSc Majoring in Environmental Science. I had debated adding something else on, but the only minor my Uni allows alongside this degree is ecology, which I actually hate, and I'm not in a place where I think I could cope with doing a double major. Although I'm already tossing up the idea of another degree after this, or some kind of post-grad.

Starsinger: Ahhhh. That's pretty cool. Weird that you're not allowed to add other minors, though. If you got a second degree, what would you go for?
|
|
|
Post by Starsinger on May 10, 2020 19:14:52 GMT
Leilani Sunblade Yeah, it is. Definitely not the best rated uni around either, there was one in my hometown that would have probably been better, but I wanted to move away from home. Weirdly enough, something to do with economics, environmental economics if I can. And I’d do that at a different uni, so then maybe look at a minor in writing or something...but probably just do it slowly part-time while working.

Starsinger: I can kind of understand that, wanting to get away from home for college. It makes a difference with social life and your ability to actually be an adult and all that. (Well, semi-adult. Adultiness is weird.) Economics would be interesting. What would you want to do with that combo, job-wise? (Sorry, I'm sure you get that question a lot.)

Leilani Sunblade Yeah, the independence is nice, even if I hadn’t decided to study I would have probably still moved, it was about time. Haha, nah, not yet, I haven’t talked to too many people about it. It’s kind of a wee dream/ambition of mine to work in an underdeveloped or developing country at some stage and work alongside people to help improve economy/prospects, but in a way that doesn’t destroy the environment. Because it’s usually developing countries that have the worst environmental impacts because they literally can’t afford to deal with it. Whereas countries like NZ, once we have a stable economy we can afford to then go ahead and worry about the environment and our impacts (not that we do nearly enough). I just think it would be kinda cool to try and find ways for economies to develop in a sustainable way right from the start.

Starsinger: That's awesome! Definitely a great goal! (Also, I had not thought about the comparative impact of underdeveloped/developing countries, so thank you for the new bit of knowledge there.)
