(Ooh, cool)
Kealade walked along, eyes seeming to wander off into the distance already, but at Marty's laud a spot of pink touched at her cheek beneath the dirt stains.

((Coolness, Ly.))
"You can just call me Linnea, 'tis fine." Linnea gestured to the others. "These are Elevie and Marty, since they didn't introduce themselves. And I think Marty has the right idea- if you don't mind, we three should play together sometime. I could play the violin or the flute . . . maybe we could even convince Kenneth to join in on his harp."

"It's Mart," she said through her teeth. "Not Marty." Elevie cleared her throat. "Either of you folks know the Banks of Roses song?"

Linnea smiled apologetically at Mart. "Sorry. I used to have a friend who went by Marty- I must've gotten your names mixed up." She nodded at Elevie. "I do."

"Another story...hmm..." Vala pursed her lips, deep in thought. "Well, my life is certainly as far from exciting as the East is from the West, and I am fairly sure your adventures greatly outweigh mine in both number and excitement..." She rubbed her temple, still thinking. "Ah, now I remember something." She began to play with the end of her braid as she talked. "It was a holy day, so all the stores were closed and whatnot. Snow was fallin', thick as a blanket. And I, being a young rascal of a girl, sneak outside to play. Everything was so quiet, but any noise sounded muffled, like under a feather pillow. So, I was playin', and I didn't notice this man ride up until he was almost on top of me. His horse was so tall, and as white as the snow...so was his beard, now that I think of it. "'Where are you going, little one?' He asked me, and his voice...ah, it sounded like...I dunno. Like if hot chocolate could have a voice, that would be it. I told him I was just playin' in the snow, and he laughed. 'Little one,' he said. 'You realize that you have strayed outside the town's borders?' He was right, I had strayed too far. I suddenly got scared, I had never been that far before. It made me cry. The man got off his horse and knelt beside me, and I saw he had bright shining armor..." For a moment, Vala was lost in her memory, looking absently at a passing cloud in the sky. "'Where do you live, little one?' He asked. I told him, and he scooped me up like I weighed naught but a feather and climbed back on his horse. I was about to scream, but he guided the horse back into the town, right to my doorstep. He got off his horse and set me down there. 'Be careful next time, little one.' Was all he said before riding off into the snow. I never saw him again." Vala trailed off, and ducked her head shyly. "I guess that's when I became so fascinated by knights." She admitted. "I thought...maybe, if I try hard enough, I could be as nice as him. Maybe find him again."

"I did not ask only for adventures, Miss Vala. Any stories of your life that are special to you- like the one you just told me- I would like to hear." Liam smiled. "Perhaps you will meet this knight again on our quest. 'Twould not surprise me."

Mart shrugged, but Elevie forged ahead. "It's a lovely one, eh?" She lifted her flute and twittered the opening notes. It was an instrumental piece for the most part, although it was possible to hum along.
((EDIT: Leilani, Nightblade wanted me to let you know that he's trying to think of an antagonist for this plot. If he can't come up with anything, I'm thinking maybe we could have some highway robbers or something?))

"I hope I do..." Vala murmured. "If it weren't for him, I might've fallen into the stream, or worse..." She looked up at Liam, smiling suddenly. "I am glad you are here, Sir Liam. It is nice to have someone to talk to."

(( Lylyss: Highway robbers would work. I figured that this plot would be less of a single antagonist and more of a wandering-about-and-running-into-adventures sort of thing.)) "I am glad of your company as well, Miss Vala." Liam returned the smile. "Spending months on the roads grows lonely after a time, now that Caid no longer travels with me. I am thankful that I have a companion once more."

Elevie's fingers danced along the flute, trilling up to heaven and then down to the depths of the Earth. She wasn't nearly as good as Linnea, but made up for it in enthusiasm. Just as they were getting to the chorus, however, her fingers slipped. The whole song slid off key and a Elevie dropped the flute in embarrassment.
((lol. Kinda like the bounty hunters, just with more conscientious characters.))

It felt nice to know that Liam thought of her as a companion. It made Vala's smile widen slightly, and a faint blush touched her cheeks. Then she grew serious as she stepped over a stone in the road. "May I ask what happened to Caid?" She ventured hesitantly.

((Exactly. xD))
Linnea paused to smile encouragingly at Elevie. "Don't stop- I thought we were sounding quite well together." ------- Liam's expression faded to solemnity. "He and I had . . . a disagreement, we shall put it, a rather serious one."
((Alas, I must be off to bed. See you tomorrow!))

"Oh, I'm sorry..." Vala mentally cursed herself for causing Liam discomfort. She barely knew him a day, and now she was bringing up things he obviously didn't want to think about.

(Ok, uhhm...shall we have some banter with our remaining characters? Er...I guess banter isn't exactly what Kealade does, but y'know)
(I have an antagonist btw)

((Last post for tonight. )) Mart turned to Kealade while the others talked. "So... Where ya from?" Elevie blinked gratefully at Linnea, then looked back down at the flute in her hands. "Yes, we were. I can't help but get carried away though." She smiled a little at own foolishness.

(( NightBlade: Awesomesauce, then. Looking forward to meeting him . . . assuming he doesn't kill my characters in their first meeting. >.<)) Linnea nodded sympathetically. "Yes, I think I understand what you mean- it's easy to get caught up in the music." She tucked her flute away. "Do you play any instruments besides the flute? ---- Liam waved a hand. "Tis fine. It is what it is, and what it is is past.."

"Aye, the zink, harp, viol, crumhorn and fiddle--mostly the fiddle these days. The rest are too heavy or expensive for travel on the road." Elevie glanced up, meeting Linnea's eyes for the first time. "What about you?"

"I mostly play the violin or the flute, but sometimes I play the harp as well." Linnea waved a hand towards her brother. "Kenneth's better on the harp, though."

Vala clasped her hands behind her back, still feeling embarrassed. She wanted to say something to Liam, but she didn't know what. So, instead, she kept her gaze fixed downward, pretending to be keeping an eye out for loose stones in her path.

(( WookieeElf: Out of curiosity, where's the quote in your siggy from?)) Liam glanced at Vala and sighed inwardly. Apparently she was still too ashamed of her question to continue a conversation. He supposed he could sympathize, and perhaps 'twas better than his own tendency to try to talk more to cover his mistakes. He turned his gaze ahead once more, his mind drifting back to Caid. He sighed again, this time audibly, though quietly. Had their split been all his fault, as Caid had implied? Had he been too strict, too dedicated to the codes of law and honor, to the black and white of wrong and right, and forgotten about mercy, about compassion? Or had Caid simply been too stubborn to admit that his old friend deserved the punishment he'd received? At this point, Liam wasn't sure there was any way to know for certain.

((@leilani: A Coldplay song called 'Fix You'. I'm in mobile, so I'm hoping I'm answering the right one...))
Vala bit her lip, nearly tripping over a stone she had so intently watched for. She had to go and open her big mouth... Something made her jerk her head up, frowning. "Sir Liam...d'you smell smoke?"
((I honestly have no idea where to take this, so do with this as you will))

((Ah, just curious.))
Liam sniffed the air and nodded. "Aye, I do. It seems to be coming from the forest. 'Twould be best if we investigate." He tied the reins of his nervously whinneying horse to a tree and set off into the woods, his hand on his swordhilt.

Vala followed behind him, gripping onto her blade's hilt tightly. The smoky smell was getting stronger. "D'you think someone's started a fire?" She asked in a whisper.

"I am quite certain of it, Miss Vala," Liam whispered back. "My question is: on what?" Smoke had begun to drift around them by now, and they could see red-orange flames through gaps in the trees.
((My thought is that they find a small cottage on fire- you can have them reach it in your next post, or I'll introduce it in mine.))

((Okay, I'll introduce it))
"I hope it's not serious..." Vala murmured, coughing into her arm. The smoke was getting rather heavy... Then they stepped out from the trees, and Vala stifled a cry, her hands flying to her mouth. A small, peasant's cottage was blazing brightly before them. "S-Sir Liam...!" Was all she could say, shock and smoke clogging her throat.

"I will!" Liam rushed forward, tried the door- barred. He took a few steps back, then threw his weight into the door. Weakened by the fire, it gave slightly, and Liam's next rush brought it crashing down. Smoke immediately began to pour forth, sending Liam coughing. Wasting no time, however, he held his sleeve over his mouth and stepped inside.

Vala found a small stream, and luck was with her—a bucket lay beside it. Filling it, she ran back towards the cottage.
