Last time on Feathered Adventures 1.0:
-Liam and Vala were waiting for Ze'yer to lead the way as they set off on their journey to the Northlands -Kenneth and Linnea had just met Mart and Elevie. Linnea asked Elevie if their two groups could travel together for a while because Linnea was in desperate need of company other than her brother.

Leilani Sunblade: Why do people fear your kind? Liam glanced quickly towards Ze'yer, wondering if there was a point to the wolf's questionings- and then wondering also if Ze'yer had heard that thought. I . . . suppose 'tis because wolves are fierce and cunning. Some attack farm animals, or even people, and those are the ones most folk remember.-------- "They've stopped." Linnea glanced up at her brother. "Do you suppose they've seen us coming?" "Perhaps." Kenneth peered again at the people ahead. "They seem to be two young ladies- sisters, I would think." "I think you're right." By now, Kenneth and Linnea had come within hailing distance of the strangers. Linnea raised her free hand to wave and called "Good morning!"
NightBlade the Outcast: (Dmitri: Ah, right. Thanks) Mmm. Ze'yer said in a reflective tone. I see. He turned to look at both humans in a glance. What is the best pace you are comfortable with?
WookieeElf: Me? I'm used to being on my feet all day. Vala answered. I won't mind whatever you pick, Ze'yer.
Leilani Sunblade: "I can likely keep a fairly quick pace." Liam turned to Vala. "Miss Vala, may I offer a suggestion? I do not believe either of us can read minds as master Ze'yer does, so if we are speaking of something that concerns all three of us, 'twould likely be best if you spoke out loud so I might hear as well."
WookieeElf: Vala nodded, slightly embarrassed. "Right, yes, of course. Silly me." She said to Liam. "I told Ze'yer that I could keep up a good pace, just like you."
Leilani Sunblade: "Ah." Liam nodded, paused, trying to think of the best way to phrase his next words. "I am sure you can . . . but if you happen to get tired, you are welcome to ride Gallant." He patted the stallion's neck. "Or if you simply do not wish to walk." Liam suspected he'd end up walking either way- to ride while a lady walked would be rude, and Gallant wouldn't be able to carry them both for a long period of time. Perhaps I should've looked for a place to stable Gallant before we left . . . if she refuses, and we both end up walking, there'll have been little reason to bring him.
WookieeElf: Vala tried her best not to blush. She wasn't used to this much positive attention, and to have a knight offer her his horse to ride on? You couldn't refuse that. "I appreciate your offer, Sir Liam. I may take you up on that."
Leilani Sunblade: Liam nodded to her with a smile. "You are welcome, Miss Vala. Simply let me know." He glanced from her to Ze'yer and back. "Is there aught else we need to do before we depart?"
NightBlade the Outcast: Ze'yer's tone implied a smile, although this was of course physically impossible. Oftentimes you are most prepared for a new experience the less you prepare for it.
WookieeElf: Vague, and slightly creepy. Vala thought to herself. If Ze'yer was like this the whole trip, she was going to be a nervous wreck by the end of it. "Well then, shall we depart?" She asked the two.
NightBlade the Outcast: (Spose we should wait for Sunblade?) (BTW I have a new plotline idea. Pretty far-out, so to speak. Imagine a cross between Prometheans, Romans, and feudal Japanese)
Leilani Sunblade: (( Danke for waiting for me. I appreciate it.)) ((Also: your new plot idea sounds interesting, Nightblade, though I don't remember what Prometheans are? I'm sure that once you tell me I'll be like "Oh, duh, that's right," but yeah.)) Liam nodded. "I am ready if you are."
WookieeElf: ((You are most welcome!)) "Then let's go!" Vala tried not to sound impatient, but she was ready.
Lylyss Silvertree: ((NIGHTBLADE. Did you just say... Romans? Please, explain further. )) "Hallllooooooooooooo!" Mart returned Linnea's wave. "Which one a'you folks was singing a minute ago?" She trotted down to meet the two strangers, leaving Elevie sigh and follow at a more sedate pace.
Leilani Sunblade: ((@wookie: Aaand now we need to wait for Nightblade . . . *wishes she'd gotten on a bit sooner*)) "That was me." Linnea couldn't help but grin at the younger girl's enthusiasm. "You heard it? I didn't realize I was singing so loudly . . ." She looked up to the older girl coming up the road and offered her a smile. "I'm Linnea, by the way, and this is my brother, Kenneth."
Lylyss Silvertree: "Oh. Wow. You're really good." Mart grinned and offered a cheery wave to Kenneth. "I'm Mart, and the slowpoke down there's my sister Elevie. She doesn't like strangers. She probably thinks you're thieves or somethin'. But I don't. I'm not weird like her." Elevie, who was within hearing distance by now, quickened her pace and muttered an apology to the strangers.
Leilani Sunblade: "Thank you, and it's nice to meet you." Linnea nodded cheerfully to Elevie. "No need to worry about us, though- we're just wandering players. Kenneth's a bard, and a good one. I'm a minstrel." Kenneth regarded Mart with a solemn expression but a twinkle of amusement in his eye. "Your sister is wise to be cautious." He turned to Elevie. "You travel alone?"
Lylyss Silvertree: "You're players? Us too! What instru--" Mart was silenced as her sister clapped a hand over her mouth. A violent flush had risen to Elevie's cheeks, but she kept her tone neutral. "Yes, we travel alone. But not for long distances, and only on busy highways. It's safer that way. And the audiences are better."
Leilani Sunblade: "Ah." Kenneth nodded once. "I wondered." He said no more, though the way he glanced from Elevie to Mart and back gave a hint to his thoughts. "They are, though Kenneth likes the back roads sometimes." Linnea playfully nudged her brother with an elbow. "He says you meet more interesting people that way." Kenneth did not reply, just raised an eyebrow at Linnea. Linnea went on. "We don't mean to keep you, of course, but do you mind if we walk with you for a while? I need some company other than my stone-faced brother."
Lylyss Silvertree: "Sure! You can walk with us. I know what you mean about needed new company." Mart wiggled her eyebrows at Elevie, who smiled in spite of herself. "We're headed North, as far as Achalia. How far are you two going to take this road?"
NightBlade the Outcast: (Sry peeps I'm busy. L8r) (Sunblade: If you don't want to wait an unknown amount of time for my explanation, you could look them up on Wikipedia or halonation I guess) (Ly Latiny names)
Lylyss Silvertree: ((Nightblade: Lol. XD Latin-y names? That's it? You're just baiting me. What if I told you that we were gonna have a RP influenced by Halo--meaning that it includes a fight. ;P))

((Thank you, Jag! You're awesome. )) ((Also, Dmitri Pendragon: Thanks for the link.)) (( NightBlade: Ah. Sounds cool.)) ((Reply to Lylyss.)) "Thank you!" Linnea glanced at Kenneth. "I'm not sure how far we'll go. I suppose until one of us decides to turn onto a different path." Kenneth nodded confirmation. "We will likely go as far as Achalia as well, but it is hard to say for certain."

"Ah." Elevie nodded and started down the road again with Mart trotting at her heels. "And what brings you to Achalia?"
((Terribly sorry about disappearing, Leilani. *facepalm*))

(('Tis perfectly fine.))
Linnea fell into step beside Elevie, with Kenneth on her other side. "Likely the same thing as you- we simply go where the road takes us, and at the moment that seems to be Achalia. Of course, we have a few friends there as well who we'd like to visit."

(Yeah makes sense) (Can you spare me the bother of looking up your Mando'a subtitle?) (Whose turn it it btw?)
Random fun colors
Anyhow...
Ze'yer picked up the pace a little bit. We are off, then.
(I hope you guys have plenty of ideas of things to happen along the way. I absolutely hate trying to initiate everything)

(( NightBlade: I'm cool with you introducing someone in my and Lylyss's plot. Aaaand I don't have a lot of ideas, but I can give it some thought and come up with something, most likely.)) Liam followed close behind, his steps eager but still measured. They had a long journey ahead, he knew . . . who knew what it might hold?

(Ok thanks)
We will pass a town near eveningtide. That will be the last town on our route. Ze'yer informed the adventurers.
-----
Amidst the normal woodland rustle amongst the trees by Linnea's path, from deep within came a faint strain of female voice, floating on the breeze. A second later it was clearer...a mournful melody that rose and fell in an unusual but eerily beautiful meter. The haunting song seemed to form no coherent words, but seemed to carry an emotional message who's meaning seemed just out of grasp.

((Nightblade: Sure! Come on into the plot. I got two stars by posting more than fifty times, I think. Lol. I was kinda surprised. Elevie started to reply, but faltered. Was that a voice she heard on the wind? At first she thought that it was just her imagination. But no, Mart had heard it too. The younger girl's eyes widened with curiosity. "What d'you think that was?"

Sure enough, after a brief pause filled by the gentle whistle and rustle of wind, another few notes drifted out sweetly but sadly from the woods. They seemed disjointed, yet at the same time in mysterious, beautiful melody.
(I imagine it like foreign music we would hear, like Japanese or Arabian flutes or something. They sound unusual but mysteriously pretty)

Linnea stepped to the edge of the path, her head tilted to one side as she listened. "I don't know . . . we should go find out."
"No." Kenneth put a hand on Linnea's shoulder. "I will investigate. You remain."
Linnea scowled at him. "Kenneth-"
"The greatest beauty may hide the deepest darkness. Stay." Without another word, Kenneth pushed into the woods, his staff held ready in his hands. -------- Liam nodded and turned to look at Vala. "Do you wish to stop in the town for the night? I would plan to- sleeping on the hard ground 'tis somewhat less than pleasant."

There was another pause in the mournful song as Kenneth spoke, but then it began again, rising and falling in melancholy beauty. The voice seemed to eminate from a round clearing in the density of the woods, a good score and a half paces in.

Kenneth approached cautiously, his steps near-silent except for the soft rustling of undergrowth. He frowned at the sound, but knew there was little he could do about it- he was already moving as quietly as possible, and anyway, whoever was making the sound seemed to know he was coming anyway. He reached the edge of the clearing and stopped, searching the glade for the source of the melody.

In the round, leaf-bedded clearing beneath a willow tree sat a girl of young adult age with her knees tucked up to her chest and her face part-hidden by a tangle of dirty blonde hair. She was draped in a sightly tattered skin cloak, with a few leaves and bits of grass clinging to it. She didn't seem to pay the approaching stranger any heed, but stared off into the distance and continued to sing her sad, sweet song.

((Last post this morning, as I must go eat breakfast and then take a literature final.))
Kenneth studied the girl for a moment from the shelter of the trees. She looked as if she would pose no threat, but as any bard worth his salt knew, appearances were often entirely deceptive. However, he also knew that he wouldn't find out anything for sure by staying here. He moved forward and stopped a few feet away from the girl. "Excuse me. Is something wrong?"

Vala nodded. "If you think it best, Sir Liam." She replied calmly, though inside she was an excited mess. If someone had told her two days ago that she'd be heading to the Northlands with a knight and a wolf, she would've laughed. Her hand playing with the dark hilt of her new blade, she looked over at Liam. "How long have you been a knight, sir?"

Liam nodded. "We will stop, then." He thought for a moment before answering. "'Tis nearing three years now, I believe. So much has happened, though, in those years, that it feels like far longer."

For another brief moment, the girl continued to sing, and let the last few haunting notes sail away into the depths of the forest. Then, she turned to gaze up at Kenneth silently, but all the words she could have replied were spoken with her pale, soul-hollowed eyes.

For a moment, Kenneth stared back at the girl, caught by her gaze . . . a gaze that seemed to tell an infinitely sorrowful story that he couldn't quite read. Then he looked away, mentally reprimanding himself. This still could be a trick of some kind. "What is wrong, miss?" ----- "My adventures, exciting as they have been for I, are, for the most part, hardly worth the retelling, Miss Vala," Liam replied, "but I will recount some if you wish- but only if you tell me something of your own story in return."

"Then we have a deal, Sir Liam." Vala said, smiling. "Shall I go first?" For a moment, she wondered if Ze'yer would be able to listen in on their conversation. She didn't want to leave the wolf out, not after all he'd done for her...

Vala hesitated a moment as she thought. "Hm, well, I remember this one time a squire came through and stopped at the tavern. The poor man was in a pickle, and you could barely get a word out of him. After an hour and about two pints, he finally told us: He was supposed to pick up a special set of spurs for the knight he was serving, but someone had stolen them from him while he was walking through town. Now, we don't take too kindly to thieves, so the tavern-keeper starts rallying our sober patrons together to make up a search party. "During this whole time, I'd been serving this one chap in the back, and I saw him try and slink out as the search party was being gathered. He had forgotten to pay, so I caught him at the door. He tried to make excuses, but I kept him there. So he pulls out his money-bag, starts to count out coins- and what should drop out of it but the stolen spurs! Poor scamp was whiter than parchment. He tried to give me extra coins, begging me to be quiet, but I called out to the others and he was arrested." Vala smiled fondly at the memory. "The squire was really sweet on me after that. I swear I heard more professions of love that day than in a year! But that was two years ago, I suspect he's a knight now...But, anyway, that's a bit of my life. Your turn, Sir Liam."

"Hello sir." The girl replied quietly, and a bit absently, before replying. "I was but singing. To my family." She sat half-kneeling, hands folded in her lap. Under the cloak she wore simple linens and a skirt, both of which were rather soiled. Her face as well was stained with dirt, but it was still rather attractive underneath.
