Welcome to the Book Bee game thread! This is a spelling bee concept game, but for any of your favorite books. Ask crazy or obscure questions or guess at the answers.
Example:
Person 1: How many times did Frodo and Legolas have a recorded dialogue with each other? Hint: less than 10 times.
Person 2: Hmmm... 6 times.
Person 1: The answer is just twice. Legolas once talks to Frodo and sings a song as they enter Lothlorien, and again at Anduin. Both times were in the Fellowship of the Ring. Extra fact: In the movie, Legolas only says three words directly to Frodo.
If no one answers for a day or so because nobody guesses the answer (or no one has read the particular book series), then someone else may post another question. But the point isn't necessarily to get the questions right, it's to have fun in the asking and the guessing!
First question:
Did Gollum actually have a dark skin tone?

I want to say no, bc he'd gone pale living under the mountains. But idk anymore. D:

Nah, he had pale skin. Pretty sure.

The answer: Yes, he did have pale skin. Tolkien confirmed this in a letter to illustrators. But he is almost always described as being dark or like a large black squirrel for two reasons: 1 (the obvious one), is that he is often seen in the dark. 2, he usually wears dark CLOTHES. He apparently wore a lot more clothes than the movies' gave him. Which completely messes with my mental image of him. XD

I'll post another (anyone may feel free to post questions, though).
Another one concerning Gollum.
In the first edition of the Hobbit, Gollum was not obsessed with the Ring. In fact, it was merely a trinket to him. Why?

I should know this one. It was just his birthday present, right? Tolkien hadn't yet decided on the it being the ring of Sauron.

I don't know this one. Or if I do then I've forgotten it. Lol

I read Riddles in the Dark to my younger brother yesterday, and Gollum did seem quite obsessed with the Ring—enough to stop fearing Bilbo's sword when he realised it was gone. What I did notice is that he refers to himself as "my precious".

The version you'll be reading is not the first edition though. In the first edition Gollum is actually quite nice. Tolkien rewrote it to line it up more with the Lord of the Rings.

Indeed, Aviar is correct. Here's a site comparing the texts of both versions. The highlighted blue shows the changes in the texts. www.ringgame.net/riddles.htmlAs Aviar said, it was before Tolkien had thought out the Rings of Power and the One Ring was really just a plot device. Gollum and Bilbo parted surprisingly kindly in the end!

What video game console did Aidan and Robby play near the beginning of the Door Within?

The only person I can think of is Guardmaster Grimwarden. But I don't think he was ever the third flet marshall. Haven't read those books in quite a while.

Vendar Stonebreaker, after Brynn (second flet marshall) and Grimwarden (first flet marshall and Guardmaster).

Did he die? I'm pretty sure he died . . .

He never reappears in the story after being stabbed by Warspiders and Gwar and falling off a roof, so I assume he's dead.

Fictional people have survived much worse than that! He's probably wandering around somewhere trying to figure out who he is.
