Solianna followed along, saying nothing. They seemed to have things well in hand. -- Milon and Abia and Caprina continued to sleep.

Caedmon was tempted to resist the influence of the magic, or perhaps notice the vaguely familiar sensation. But unfortunately, as is neccessary in situations such as those, he had to roll and got a 7. So, he dropped the subject and decided to finishe gathering herbs. But the instant he stepped into the brush, his neck began to prickle again.
(I'm not saying that I think rolling is neccessary in this plot. I just resorted to it cuz I couldn't decide what to make Caedmon do)

(( NightBlade: Understandable. OH BTW, I picked a song for my graduation thingy!! 'American Noise' by Skillet! XP)) The cloaked man frowned. This Caedmon...his will was quite strong. He must have faced magic before... Vala continued to hum, occupying herself by sorting the herbs and braiding a few of them together just for the fun of it. The song was somewhat unfamiliar to her, but she had heard it before...hadn't she? She couldn't remember where. ((Now, do I have our man in black launch another attack (verbal and/or physical) or does he wait until morning?))

(Ooh, good choice ) (Well, perhaps some drama could be stirred up with an unsettled Caedmon and a placated Liam. And a totally confused Vala x)

((Nightblade's suggestion sounds good, so long as Caedmon lets Liam know he's unsettled. xD. *nods*)) ((Also, is Vala's song what I think it is?))
Liam nodded to Sam. "Thank you. I'll take the second, then." For lack of anything else to do- he didn't know enough to help Vala with the herbs- he checked the meat on the fire, found it half-done, and turned it to cook the rest of the way.
((Also: regarding the tower plot, do we want to have them encounter anything on the way to the city? Or do they make it there to get information/help/etc. without trouble?))

((Okay...please, any ideas? I'm half-asleep, can't think...)) ((As for the song...it might be...))
Perhaps I shouldn't allow this...this peace. The man thought, watching Caedmon gather herbs. He moved to the left, looking into the camp. He scowled at Liam and Sam. Maybe he should spice things up again...
((I don't have any ideas for the tower plot right now...))

Caedmon, outside of the spell of peacefulness, flicked his gaze about the woods. Was that--he was sure for a second there was.... "Liam." He hissed over his shoulder. "Somebody is prowling aboot. I'm sure of it."
-------
"I am quite fine." Sa'yinje replied, as if he already had no recollection of his earlier spiritual afflictions. "How far off would this tower be?"

((Question: Did Sa'yinje mean to say tower or town? 'Cause I'm assuming town, but I'm not totally sure?))
Liam turned, looking more out of habit than of actual worry. "You're certain? I see nothing."

"Oh, relax, Caedmon!" Sam called out, chuckling. "There's nothing there. I'm a thief—I'd know when someone's sneaking about. It's what I do!" Vala laughed softly, leaving the herbs to go sit by her brother, still humming the song. The cloaked man paused, almost silently daring Caedmon to come after him.
------
Mylena shook her head. "I do not know. I haven't been there in years."

(Town)
Caedmon stiffened a bit. Well...so much for not worrying the others by overhearing. Although--none of them really seemed worried at all.... He turned from the others sitting in camp back to the woods once more.
("Almost silently" meaning it wasn't quite silent? Like Caedmon would hear him?)

((Bleh I was typing while talking to someone. He's still humming magic, I guess. But not loud enough for Caedmon to hear.))
Perhaps...yes, maybe I should have a talk with this man. A tendril of magic slithered across the ground to Caedmon, invisible, tugging at him, luring him into the dark...

"It wasn't far when I came. Maybe two days' journey, even at a fairly slow pace." Æthelrytha turned around so she was walking backwards after her former master. "Or, that's how long it took me, and I just went there." --------

"I fear that this storm will travel more swiftly than we..." Sa'yinje kept glancing back at the mountain, waiting for tendrils of broiling black to appear. "But have we any option other than to flee?"
-------
Caedmon gave one glance back at the camp, grunted, then struck off into the woods, clenching his sword. Soo be it. I'll drag the blighter back meself.

"Like what?" Æthelrytha wrinkled her nose. "I don't think we're quite capable of fighting a storm." ---------- Liam watched Caedmon go with a slight shake of his head. The man seemed oddly jumpy . . . after so much had happened already, the day couldn't possibly hold more. Still, he supposed, better safe than sorry . . . He returned to sit back down by Vala and Sam.

"We should warn the townsfolk, at least." Mylena glanced back at the mountain. "Unless we all want to share the same fate."
--------
Good...good...this way... The magic tugged at Caedmon, stoking his emotions, attempting to blind rational thought, leading him farther away from the camp. Vala gave Liam a bright smile as he came over, lying down on her back and pointing up. "Have you ever seen the stars look so pretty?"

Æthelrytha nodded. "And there'll be other wizards and magic-folk there who can help us- one of them's sure to know how to stop it." ------ Liam leaned back, balancing himself with hands pressed into the dirt, following the line of Vala's finger. "I don't believe I have, Miss Vala."

"Let's hope so," Mylena added quietly.

Vala sighed. "I like them. They're like diamonds." She hummed the song again under her breath, folding her arms behind her head.

Sa'y inje shook his head with a soft oath. "No." He hastened along, hoping to keep the group's pace brisk.
(^ (In response to the "can we fight it" post from Aethl)) -------
Caedmon trudged towards where he had seen the movement. He knew the intruder couldn't be far, as he had been within sight range in the dense woods.

((Whoa Liam, simmer down now XP))
Mylena moved to catch up with Sa'yinje.
-------
"I'm here..." A voice whispered to Caedmon's left. "No, here." Now it came from the right. A soft laugh echoed through the trees.
Vala pursed her lips. "I am not sure. I've heard it before, and I like it."

Caedmon, being fed up with the day, snarled something that the workmen back at his old clan usually said when they pounded their finger with a mallet. "Get your stupid face oot in the open, so ah ken hack it off!"

((Doing my best to make him . . . if all else fails, Sam can play the protective-brother card. xD))
Æthelrytha's master, noting Sa'yinje's increased pace, sped up slightly as well. Æthelrytha huffed as she had to turn around and walk normally in order to keep up. ------ "Ah. I was simply curious. As I said, it's very pretty." Liam's gaze wandered back up to the sky.

"You aren't the first to say that to me...probably won't be the last." A shadow formed near the base of a tree in front of Caedmon. "I shall come out, just this once. But, as a precaution..." He hummed softly, and Caedmon was surrounded by magic once more, keeping him from moving too close. "That's better," the man said, grinning under his hood. "Now...you may speak. I'm sure you have a lot to say."
Vala nodded, and was silent for a moment. Then she rolled onto her side, propping her head up on one hand. "What do you think we'll do once we're done with this quest, Sir Liam?" She asked softly.

"Ach," Caedmon growled, "I'll tell ye who's got a lot to say." Turning on his heels, he took several bounding steps back towards the camp. "Liam!" He shouted. "Get yeself out here quick noo! He's here, he's bladdy here!"

"Well . . . I hope to continue traveling, if I can. And as I have said before, if you wish to come-" The rest of Liam's statement was cut off by Caedmon's call. He's . . . what? The stark contrast between Caedmon's urgency and the peace amidst the camp, combined with Liam's instincts, were just enough to get him on his feet and moving towards the call. As he pushed out into the trees, he called back to Vala and Sam, "Stay here! And be careful!"
A feeling of prickling unease hit him as soon as he was outside the camp- but that just drove him forward all the faster.

What seemed to be an invisible brick wall rose in front of Caedmon. "Ah ah ah," the man said softly. "Not yet. You're too eager for battle...not a very good trait for a man with his eye on a young woman." His voice turned cold at the last sentence. He heard Liam coming and scowled. "You had to ruin my fun." He waved a hand, and the fire died instantly in the camp, making Vala cry out in surprise.

Liam's pace slowed slightly at Vala's cry. He glanced back, uncertain whether to keep moving forward or return to camp to defend Vala. He didn't know what was ahead, didn't know what Caedmon was facing. But if it was a feint . . .

"Blast your fun." Caedmon snarled with another harsh curse. "Liam, on ye guard! The blighter is hiding 'ere somewhere..." He backed himself slowly towards Liam, forced to trust him to cover his back.

Vala huddled against Sam, who had his sword out, the peaceful magic gone. "Show yourself, coward!" He shouted into the darkness. The man circled Caedmon and Liam, magic swirling about him as he hummed—the tune sounding quite familiar. "Are you ready to face death?"
