((@leilani SunBlade: That's the plan.))
Steve left his car about halfway to the business. He didn't want to arouse too much suspicion with a car the workers have never seen before. Getting close to the area, he started heading for an alley that would lead to the back of the building. Upon reaching it, he looked around, making sure that he wasn't being watched or followed. Taking a deep breath, he headed for the back door.

The woman's expression didn't change to show believe or doubt. "I see. Well, if you recall anything, let us know. Thank you for your willingness to join us in serving." Her gaze flickered to Rachel. "Rachel, you'll make sure that if she needs anything, she's taken care of?"
"Definitely." Rachel stood. "Any other questions before we go, Anna?"

Anna forced herself to rise at a normal speed, though she wanted to flee the room. "Thank you, ma'am, I'll remember..." She looked over at Rachel. "No questions, I think I'm good."

"Have a good day, ladies." The woman turned her attention fully back to the screen.
"We will." Rachel led the way to the door and held it open for Anna. Once they were out, and the door was shut, Rachel grinned. "You're totally in. I mean, the upper-level people could still say no . . . but usually she just asks them about the candidates she thinks they'll accept."

Anna's shoulders relaxed a little, and her smile was a bit warmer. "Y'think so?"

Steve wasn't in for very long before he got spotted by a security guard. Not wanting to waste any time, he created a bolt of fire and shot it towards the man. He was down before he could scream. Steve quickly made his way to an elevator, surprised that there weren't that many people on the main floor.
Perhaps some kind of meeting, he thought to himself. And you can't have a meeting without the person in charge...
Steve went to find another security guard. It would help to know what floor the meeting was on.

Rachel nodded. "I'm positive." She slid her phone partway out of her pocket to check the time. "Um. What now? I can't exactly give you the tour today . . . I mean, you're as good as in, but they like you to be official before you see the interesting parts of this place. Lydia won't be done for a while, I bet. And it's kind of late anyway . . . So, any thoughts?"

Anna bit her lip. "Well, uh, if you need to do anything, I'll just...hang around. Maybe...find a room? It's been a long day..."

"It has- and probably longer for you than me. Sorry for not thinking of it." Rachel bit her lip. "So, do you have an actual place to stay? If not, there are some rooms here I could get you permission to use, or you could stay over with me if you want somewhere a little more homey- they pay for a two-bedroom apartment, and I keep the second bed ready in case Lydia needs a place to stay."
((Yes, in case you were wondering, that is basically how Rachel rolls, trusting so fast. It helps that she's a mindreader, and while she doesn't actively read everyone's mind, she keeps alert for "loud thoughts." Anyway, I G2G for the night. See you tomorrow!))

Anna shrugged. "I mean, if there's a couch I could use, I don't really care. I'm not that picky."

"My place it is." Rachel started back towards the elevators, texting Lydia with one hand to let her know of their plans. ((So, I don't really have any more ideas for Rachel and Anna until the next morning . . . I'm mostly just waiting for NightBlade at the moment, or I'd say to timeskip through the night, unless you have other ideas?))

Anna blinked in surprise, then quickly brushed a hand over her eyes as she hurried to follow. "O-okay...thank you."
((I don't really have any ideas at the moment. So I guess we'll wait.))

The next security guard Steve found was in the lobby. Sneaking up behind him, Steve wrapped his arms around the mans head, and pulled him into the elevator. "Tell me where to find the person in charge, or I'll kill you," Steve threatened. The security man's eyes bulged as Steve lit up a ball of fire in between his fingers. "They're on the 6th floor! Please, don't do anything against the law!" The man pleaded. "Sorry, but I don't need your lecture," Steve said calmly. He stepped forward and pressed the button that would bring them up to the 6th floor. "It's just business," Steve stated as he stepped out of the elevator and turned around. He sent the ball of fire upwards towards the roof of the elevator, burning through and cutting the wire holding it up.

Jack followed the others in through security and secretaries and whatnot.

Valerya twiddled her feet on the bench of the shelter in Queens. She hoped that this time she would have a real job at the diner downtown.

(( NightBlade: Glad to hear it. Lydia, Luke, and Jack actually went upstairs to find out if the NG had any records of previous encounters like this, while Rachel and Anna went downstairs to do their stuff. JSYK.)) Five floors up, the elevator spilled the three into a hub of computers and monitors, circling outwards in rings from the central section of the room. Surprisingly few people manned the computers, yet there was no doubt that plenty was going on. One of the people manning the computers, a young man who looked . . . well, like a stereotypical geek . . . waved them over. "Hey. Luke and . . . whatsit . . . Lydia and Jack? Right? You guys needed information?" Luke led the way over, obviously the most used to this place. "Yeah. You got reports of the incident at the station, right?" "Yeah." The young man swiveled his chair to face them. "I heard someone- I guess two of you?- thought you saw the person who did it? Did you? Did you see the person actually using their power? Description of any of that can help us figure out who did it."

(Ok.)
Jack trailed behind the others, glancing around the room and taking it in. Thus far in his unfamiliar environment around unfamiliar people he was keeping silent until directly addressed, but he listened closely. He wanted to know what was going on as much as the next guy.

Lydia nodded. "We saw her- fought her, actually. Description of her . . . kind of red-blond hair, creepy golden eyes, freckles . . . as for her using her power . . . she didn't seem to make any motions or anything." She glanced at Jack. "How would you describe it? What she did, you know?"

"Um..." Jack thought back. "She uh, controlled the ground. Er no...just the stone part. She controlled the stone, like the concrete and stuff. I think...right?" He glanced back at Lydia.

Lydia nodded. "Pretty much. Though she did the thing at the window too, and I don't know if that was stone or not . . ."
"She's not just an earth manipulator, though," Luke put in. "I studied the cracks at the station. There was more than stone that would've broken, but it was smooth- almost like everything that had been there just turned liquid and flowed away somewhere. So either she does more than earth, or there's someone else more powerful than her running around too."
"Sounds creepy." The tech pushed his glasses up on his nose. "Not like anything in the records, though- don't think so, anyway. I'll check." He turned, tapped some keys. The nearest three screens flickered to show lists of dates and what seemed like a shorthand code of some kind. "Nope, noth- wait. What the- this doesn't make sense."

The tech clicked one of the dates. An image- a crack like the ones at the station running down the center of a small church- popped up, accompanied by long rows of text. "This is from three months ago, reported in a little town near the Finger Lakes. Sounds super similar- locals even said there were a pair of strangers in town that day, one of whom matches the description of the girl- the other one claimed to be her brother."
Lydia shrugged. "So? What's the issue? Maybe they were doing a test run?"
"The problem is that this entry wasn't here this morning. It wasn't here this afternoon. It wasn't here an hour ago. But it's here now, and . . ." he clicked a few things on one of the screens. "And according to this, it was created the day after the event took place. Hasn't been touched since." He swiveled to almost-glare at them. "I know what you're gong to say- but no one can hack the system here. No one."

Jack started to nervously tap his feet, looking from the guy to Lydia. Once again silent, mind wandering through a variety of creepy possibilities.
(Gah. I feel like Jack really has no useful potential in this situation. It's like this is the regular movie dialogue scene where the starting info is discovered that sets them off on their mission, but he can't do much but wait until that point)

((Yep, that's pretty much what this is . . . sorry; I was worried you might be feeling that way, but I'm not sure how to fix it?))
Luke peered at the screen over the tech guy's shoulder. "Any other information that might be useful? Maybe give us a clue or two?"
"Not much." The tech guy skimmed the screen. "They left a message- similar to what we got earlier. 'We are here. We were here. And we will not leave. Your world will fall before us.' Aaaaand that's about it."
Lydia grimaced, glanced at Luke. "Any ideas? You're the powers expert."
Luke shook his head. "Not really. Could be a really good hacker- sorry, but there's technopaths on the other side too, y'know. Or it could be time travel. Or a bunch of other things. We'll just have to keep our eyes open and hope our opponents give us the answers themselves- at least, judging from what we've seen again, that's pretty likely. The girl, at least, sounds like she enjoys taunting with her . . . opponents."

(I'm content to wait it out, I just don't want to act like a limp rag while you do all the work. If you're okay with it, go ahead and develop our plot-mission-thingy. It's hard work for all of us to continue the RPs when most people have abandoned them :/ )

Steve found himself outside of a quite generic meeting room, looking through the windows of the closed doors. They appeared to be talking about a new idea that could set their sales through the roof. Too bad they won't be around long enough to see how their idea works. Steve set his hand on the doorknob and heated it up, melting the locking mechanism inside of it. Turning the knob, he pushed the door open and made his grand entrance.

((Eh. I don't mind this work. Setting up the plot is the easy part of me; it's keeping it going in a non-lame way that I have trouble with. So as long as you're ok with it . . . I should be just about done here, though. I've done pretty much all the set-up I want to do right now.))
"You can say that again," Lydia muttered. Out loud, she asked, "Any idea how to proceed?"
"Keep our eyes open- even more than usual." The tech shrugged. "We don't have the tech to track individual power signatures yet. Just to tell when something unusual is happening. Maybe check some of the more high-end targets tomorrow- I'll send you a list- in case the perp comes back. From their messages, they're either out to rule the world or to destroy it, and whichever it is, they're sure to strike again. But until they do- or until they show themselves some other way- there's not much we can do except watch and- for those of us who aren't watching- try to get some sleep."

Lydia's phone buzzed, and she pulled it out to check it. "Looks like Rachel and Anna are done. Jack, you want to go see if you can catch them before they leave? Luke and I have a few last things to finish up."
