Aye to the ads! Now… erm… who's making them?

Aye! I initiated the project so I take full responsibility for making the ad. But if anyone would like to help that would be appreciated.

Leilani and Liessa, why don't you want to use FaceBook?

I feel like that's casting too wide a net. And as a sentinel, I feel that it shouldn't be done. Honestly, I'm still not for an ad at all, but I definitely don't think Facebook should be an option.

Ellron Silvertree The reason I think we need to change the header is because it's not the original Berinfell header, and I'm not sure where it came from, (I'm assuming Andy found it somewhere). And unless he got permission from the artist, it's not right to use. Plus, it doesn't look that great. I mean, half the title is cut off. Not very appealing.

I doubt it :/ the two most obvious solutions have been adamantly denied this far.

I think that the Sentinels are okay with us doing this. Anyway, there was an overwhelming majority of people who voted in favor. I've already scripted part of the video and as soon as I make a storyboard of sorts I will share it with you. And if I don't post it by this weekend, send me a message telling me to work on it. Seriously, I'm such a procrastinator.

Cool that you're doing videos and such for the Underground. Though I agree that new members are likely necessary for the ultimate survival of this site, I will say that with new members comes change. New people bring new dynamics and new culture. It happened with the Second Generation (which I was a part of) and again with the Third Generation, which I witnessed. If we can manage to bring a Fourth Generation in, great! But be prepared for change. Not that we haven't already changed... what with the site move and everything. Still, I must say that I'm impressed by the way we've managed to stick together and preserve everything that we have. so many of our members are now older, but after all these years we're still hanging out and making time for this community. That means a lot, you know?

Uggggggh man I'm a creaky old fart xD But yes! We will survive, I'm sure of it we just all will have to be careful of what we say in regards to our real selves in a slightly more public setting.

Yes- but then again, it's always been that way for me. If anything, I'm more free now than I was on the old forum, aside from a few rookie mistakes that were safe to make because of the environment. The Underground is especially memorable to me because at the time I started using it, I still had a very limited grasp on what the internet even was. I had used You Tube before without really understanding what it was, and had only recently discovered Wikipedia when I signed up (which was an accident, by the way). Being here taught me about forums, account-making, manual coding, and roleplays. From there, a whole new world opened up.

My two cents --
Word of mouth is another way to get people involved! If you're on social media, let your followers know; "Hey! I read this great book series and now there's a forum for fantasy writing/etc.!" Tell your writer friends, dragon-loving friends, I dunno. This method kind of caps off once you've told all of your "real life" friends (speaking loosely); it never hurts to try, though. :)
I'm so happy that you all talked about this! Don't limit yourselves--think outside the box! Are there any simple, practical ways that you can bring even one new member to the forum?
Everyone is putting a lot of great thoughts and effort into this problem. Props, yo.

I am the worst. D: Anyway, I'm working on the temp audio right now. I have the storyboard done. Then I'll figure out some kind of google document that I can attach a video to or something, or else I'll make a private video on YouTube. Whatever the case, I promise it won't be too long before you can see it. EDIT: Also, about length. Does anyone have a suggestion about how long it should be? Currently its at 30 seconds. I don't want it to be too long, but I'm considering expanding it to maybe a minute.

@warrior of Aror: I have no idea, actually. *shrug* I leave it to you- you're probably a better judge.
Okay... I was just looking through the Old Underground on the Wayback, and I got a little teary. So many good memories! :')

Warrior of Aror: From a consumer POV, 30 secs would be a minimum time for a website ad. A minute would be fine, with anything over that pushing it a bit. And, a bit late, but nay to FB; from what I've seen, there's way too much potential for creepers to come vs. honest people (more so than plain ol' internet, that is).

Overall, I think we should ask WTB for his input. These websites are all because of him, y'know. We owe him that much.

I notified him off this discussion back when I started it. So although he has not come to preside, he is aware. Also, it is as much Sir Hopper's as Sir Batson's
