Of course it also depends on how flashy or subtle they are. Kirenyth's avatar is quite flashy. (Pun intended.)

I vote that we wait for a while before making any rules about animated avatars. We've only been here for a few weeks, and there are a lot of things we still have to get used to. :)

I vote the same. It's not slowing my dinosaur of a phone down, and yeah. It can be a little annoying. But I don't really see a problem yet.

Hi! I was hoping to hop in and join some of the threads (I need a good RP after Character's Corner craziness), and wanted to ask a couple questions about the rules.
First question: Would any of these bits of writing be considered brutal, excessive, or descriptive (as defined by moderators)? "He side-stepped a lunging reverse and slid the hero into an arm lock."
"Shade took his arm (the same one that was in a lock earlier, no less) and twisted into an arm bar. The hero gasped and went up on his toes. He grunted and tried to pull back. With a slight shrug, Shade complied. He stepped towards the hero and around, keeping a grip on his hand all the while."
"The hero’s arm still up, Shade drove a knee into the ribcage."
"He collapsed, the knife hilt protruding from his abdomen. Pearl turned away, and heard him moan. She smelled blood, and heard him cough."
Second question: If a character "curses", would saying something like "He cursed," "He muttered curses to himself," or "With a grunt of frustration, he cursed," be acceptable?
Thanks! ^.^

First question: That would be fine. We just don't want graphic detail. Second question: Quite acceptable; that's the usual way people do it.

Does anyone else think Obitus's avatar is a bit…disturbing?

It is a bit, but I'm also not sure if we can call it graphic yet. I'll talk to the other sents.

With Hyper gone and Andy inactive, do we need more Sentinels, or is the objectivity from two Sents enough?

Well, the need for sentinels has gone down quite a bit with everyone being able to make their own threads and change their own subtitles, and there isn't many spam threads, so I think that two sentinels are enough.

Dmitri Pendragon Pendragon: At the moment, Liessa and I believe we can handle things. Should that change, we'll consider appointing new Sentinels.

Do we already have a fantasy roleplay thread (magic, elves, orcs, etc.)?

@cng: There's the Feathered Adventures thread.

As WookieeElf said, we have the Feathered Adventures thread. You could start a new plot on there. Depending on what kind of fantasy plot you had in mind, I would also be open to the idea of starting a second fantasy roleplay thread just so the one thread wasn't overwhelmed. (After all, on the old UG, we had two or three fantasy roleplay threads running at any given time . . .)

Oh okay. I kinda looked over Feathered Adventures, but I couldn't really tell what was going on. In my head I was thinking of something like a classic fantasy roleplay, i.e. wizards and goblins and dragons and stuff like that, but I don't want to start a whole new thread if that's already the theme with Feathered Adventures haha.

Feathered Adventures is general fantasy, more or less. You can either ask about starting a classic fantasy plot like you described on that thread, or you can check around, make sure there's at least a few other people who'd join your plot, and start a new thread, if you're worried about it getting lost or something with FA. Your choice.

I might be interested in a fantasy adventure with mages and stuff. What sort if wizards/mages, though? I differentiate between the two in my head. I might make a thread and talk about it :P

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that literally anyone can view anything on this forum? Is there any way to make this forum more...private? Exclusive? Like, password protect it or something?

I don't know about the whole forum, but you can change your own personal settings. Edit you profile privacy settings and you can find various options.

NightBlade: As Liessa said, you can change your profile privacy settings to determine who can see what. And I'll check to see if I can change the defaults of what's viewable.

You didn't have to be logged in to view all the threads and read everything on the old UG either- I should know, I spent six months to a year stalking the site before I joined.

Yeah. I think honestly, if you're not comfortable with anyone just popping in and reading what you've written you need to either change your personal privacy settings, or just don't write it.

First . . . why? Second, what would you suggest?

Post by Elytra on Nov 5, 2015 0:46:29 GMT
Because It's been like that ever since the UG was made, and I would suggest something like "Endurance and Victory" or "You're welcome here but don't blink" Or something to that extent.

Just an observation or two. I understand the desire to make writing threads private, and I'm all for what you did, but can't anyone still just make an account and look at them anyways? So it's really only a very minor deterrent. Also, in the world of intellectual property, would it be a good idea for those who are posting their work on here to make some sort if claim/disclaimer at the beginning of each of their content posts?
