Elytra: Nothing we can do about that. If you want to read the spoilers, fine; it's your loss alone. *SPOILERS FOR THE WAY OF KINGS* Lylyss: The parshmen revelation was one of the ones that hit me the hardest. Mostly because of Words of Radiance, but you'll see. And I'm not surprised you chose to write "old hospital king" instead of Taravangian—he has a complicated name.

*SPOILERS FOR STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE, SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS* Lylyss: Yep. See, that's the sort of stuff that makes me love Sanderson's books . . . he has all these plot twists, and they make perfect sense, but I NEVER see them coming and it's just like "What. What just happened. Oh. My. Pumpernickel." Just wait for Words of Radiance. :D Same! Gaaaah! The twists are my favorite part. :) I'm bracing myself for Word's of Radiance. So far I haven't had much time to read, although apparently Shallan is going to be betrothed to Adolin? :D Lol. I was hoping that would happen. Can't see it working out though--no spoilers, please. ;) *END SPOILERS OKAY YOU CAN READ* *falls to knees* Whyyyyyyy Raptor? Whyyyyyyyyyyyy... *dying moan* Oh, and this is kind of random, but you should check out Andrew Peterson. If you like Robin Mark, you might like Peterson's music. :) *SPOILERS FOR STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE AGAIN SPOILERS SPOILERS* *SPOILERS FOR THE WAY OF KINGS* Lylyss: The parshmen revelation was one of the ones that hit me the hardest. Mostly because of Words of Radiance, but you'll see. And I'm not surprised you chose to write "old hospital king" instead of Taravangian—he has a complicated name. Lol. Yup. Whatever his name is, I think he's a terrifying bad guy. *shudders* Evil, evil, evil man. The fact that he's kind of grandfatherly makes it even creepier.

Oh my thrice-baked, honey-buttered pumpernickel. I just finished Shadows of Self, the latest Brandon Sanderson book and wow. It's . . . wow. Not as incredible as WoR, but still . . . yeah.

Lylyss: There's no way you can get me to stop reading the spoilers. Except for if you come down and ask me in person. xD But I'm not going to read Brandon Sanderson's books, so I don't mind reading spoilers for it.

*SPOILERS FOR WAX AND WAYNE BOOK I*
Honestly, I wasn't quite as interested in Wax and Wayne--though it was wonderful to see snippets of how the Mistborn characters impacted posterity. Lol. Remember how Spook made Eastern dialect a high-and-mighty language? xD I laughed so hard.
*END SPOILERS*
Raptor: Lol. I might just have to do that. But seriously, you should give Brandy Sandy a try. :) It's so. Much. Fun. Even if you already know what happens. The little details in a story are always the best.

**NOT REALLY SPOILERS, JUST OPINIONS** I quite liked Wax and Wayne. Yes, that…that was hilarious. I can't say I laughed, since I rarely laugh at other people's books (although I do laugh at mine), but I definitely smiled a face-splitting smile at each reference to the previous series. Demoux Promenade and such. Vindication. And apparently Book 3, The Bands of Mourning, is about the Lord Ruler's metalminds. **END NOT-REALLY-SPOILERS-BUT-JUST-OPINIONS**

*POSSIBLY SPOILSOME OPINIONS BEWARE OF MY SPOILSOME OPINIONS*
Well, I'm willing to give them another try. ;) Especially if they involve the Lord Ruler. :O I'm imagining a situation where an evil Feruchemist/Twinborn discovers the metalminds--but that wouldn't really do him much good, since only the original owner can tap them. Huh. Maybe they find a way to extract the energy.

Dmitri Pendragon Pendragon: Hope you get it soon. It's amazing. Lylyss: I'd definitely recommend giving it another try . . . book 2 is insane. Not quite on the level of the original trilogy, but still. Why were you not as interested in them?

Why were you not as interested in them? *SPOILERS FOR WAX AND WAYNE BOOK ONE* *shrug* :P Wellll... I dunno. I thought the opening was great--Lissie's death was a powerful scene. But Wax didn't seem to miss her. I wanted some sorrow, tears, and fists shaken at the sky. For whatever reason, he just wasn't convincing enough to me. Wayne was good though. I liked his backstory a lot. :D *END SPOILER*

("I am going to bed, where I may die.") I love the ending as well, though . . . and pretty much any conversation between Howl and Sophie. xD jliessa44 Leilani Sunblade: I watched the Studio Ghibli version of Howl's Moving Castle before reading the book. Ah. Yes. I didn't want to throw the book against the wall, but the former was still . . . oh stars, I did not see that coming. The latter actually annoyed me because I didn't remember the name being mentioned anywhere but once and it felt . . . awkward, I guess. I mean, it's an impressive revelation, but the shock value was mostly in the unknown metal that MeLaan found. Edit: Ok, scratch that. The name was mentioned in The Alloy of Law. I'd just forgotten about it. So it's less of an issue . . . but it still felt out-of-the-blue to me.

(spoilers for Shadows of Self) Still, he had to do it. The story demanded it. To make Wax's choice to pull the trigger that painful, he couldn't just let Bleeder be an impostor—she had to be her. (I was also intrigued by the parallelism Sanderson employed with the gunshot location.) Trell as in Trell-and-the-unknown-metal, yeah. I heard something about the metal being from another Shard.

|
|
Post by Leilani Sunblade on Nov 18, 2015 23:01:57 GMT
Dmitri Pendragon: Very true. I'm sure the metal is from another Shard. I'm more curious about how said Shard ended up in the Mistborn world and whether or not Trell played a part in the original trilogy that we just didn't know about until now. On a less serious note, I loved getting to see more of the kandra in this novel. Even if MeLaan is as irreverent as Wayne at times. xD And Wax's first conversation with Harmony. That was something else.

I'm guessing that the Shard is Autonomy—Bavadin's Shard, which Brandon recently revealed. Its Intent fits best with what Bleeder was saying.
According to the Coppermind, Trell was mentioned in the original trilogy by Sazed—Trelagism was one of the religions Sazed offered to Vin, and the Nelazan—practitioners of Trelagism—worshiped the Thousand Eyes of Trell, which were stars. Miles did call his religion Trellism in Alloy, so…
Aye. Me too. What I found most interesting about the kandra was how they go from Contract shapeshifters to being the Faceless Immortals. (When MeLaan said she hadn't read the Words of Founding, that was hilarious.)
Harmony and Wax…that's the only scene I read twice. It was…incredible.
Two other scenes I really liked were Wax's visit at the Village and his meeting with his grandmother Vwafendal, and the scene in the Pits of Hathsin and the kandra Homeland.

Hmm. Interesting. Yeah, I read that Coppermind article too when you first brought up Trell. (insert response to kandra here) I actually didn't like Wax's visit to the Village and his grandmother. I mean, it was interesting to see how the Terris culture functions now. But I guess bias on certain topics got in the way of my enjoying it fully. The Pits of Hathasin and the Homeland were cool, though. (And I liked seeing TenSoon again). And I liked the scenes at the first ball a lot. They were fun, and I liked seeing Steris and Wax interact. I actually ship them now, between that and the last scene.

Bias on certain topics? Which certain topics are these you mention? I was really surprised when Vwafendal first said she was Wax's grandmother. I thought Brandon did a good job of building up suspense while keeping the end revelation in the shadows.
I've always "shipped" Wax and Steris. (I don't actively ship characters, but I guess that's the best word to describe it.) Never Wax and Marasi.
