Ciqala ducked down as a bullet ripped over the top of his head, spraying chips of wood into the air. Sawyer brought his sights down onto Enapay as he rushed to his brothers aid, brow furrowing in concentration as his finger moved to the trigger-- a bullet exploded through his shoulder and he gave a shout of pain. The bullets aim was thrown askew and it exploded only a few inches from Enapay's foot. Sawyer cursed wildly, ducking down further into cover.

(( Lylyss Sorry I didn't see Halliday's appearance until now my bad >_< )) Jeremiah paused to reload his gun, then he fired another shot at Ciqala and Sawyer. Enapay, you'd better be moving now!_____________________ Patience was collecting her and her mother's dirty plates when she saw the shape in the window and yelped.

Ciqala peaked from the top of his cover just as Jeremiah pulled the trigger. The sioux had no time to react, there was a snapping sound, a spray of something red, and then there was nothing but a faint ringing and the sky…
------------------------------
A dark red blot had spread across Sawyer's shirt, his face twisted in rage and pain. His party had been caught off-guard, there was little to no cover in the open field, leaving him and the caravan open from attacks at all angles. Sawyer had made a stupid mistake, something he wouldn't repeat in the future. But, nevertheless, that indian boy was his, and it would take more than two trigger-happy gunslingers to stop him. He pulled back the lever on his rifle, the smoking husk of an empty shell shooting out the side, and leveled the sights on Enapay's calf. He had done this a million times, and yet the solid feel of the rifle in his hands still got his blood pumping. Sawyer smirked. He squeezed the trigger.
------------------------------
Four horsemen galloped from the caravan, whooping and hollering as they charged across the field, towards the battle.

Amelia stood up, motioning for Patience to move away from the window. "Who's asking?"

Sawyer ducked behind his cover, Jeremiah's bullet zipping over his head. He snarled. They were getting away. Emerging from behind the fallen tree, he pulled back the lever on his rifle, unloading on the fleeing trio.
Ciqala sat up, the world had gone silent save for that same, ever-present ringing noise. He raised a hand to the side of his head, and it came off covered in sticky, red blood. What had once been his left ear lay in the grass a few feet away from him. Slowly, the sioux rose shakily to his feet, and, for lack of a better idea, grabbed his rifle from the ground and stumbled towards Sawyer.

Suddenly, almost angrily, he cupped his hands to help Jeremiah mount. "Ride close. If you start to feel faint, I'll pull you onto my horse." Sawyer's shots pocked the earth just a few feet away. Distance had saved them, but they wouldn't be able to count on that sort of luck next time. ____________________ Halliday tipped his hat to Addison. "Well howdy, Sherriff! A hole was blown in the man's chest as he swung and he fell with an upstanding wilhelm scream. Sawyer's brow furrowed in frustration, the wound in his shoulder only fueling his anger. Enapay ducked below the rifle, then aimed his own pistol at the trader. It would have been a perfect shot. Would have. If he hadn't been thrown into the air, suddenly, inexplicably, and landed on the ground with a sickening thump. What happened? For a breathless moment, all he could do was stare in shock. His horse lay on the rocks beside him. Eyes rolling, shrieking pitifully, she tried to stand. But the mare collapsed once again and blood dribbled from one of her hind legs. There was only one thing to do: Enapay shot her through the brain. It was an honorable, painless death, but it cost him precious time. Sawyer was approaching at a breakneck pace. Find your brother. Find your brother--where had Chankoowashtay fallen? Somebody groaned from behind a nearby thicket. With a rush of recognition, Enapay tore back the brambles and seized his brother, then dashed after Jeremiah. But he knew it was hopeless. He could never outrun a man on horseback.
